There are many factors affecting duck breeding performance, such as mating age, male-female ratio, season, feeding conditions and so on.

Suitable mating age of duck

The breeding age of ducks should not be early, and the breeding age is too early, which not only has adverse effects on its own growth and development, but also has a low fertilization rate. The general egg-type male duck matured earlier and the first mating age was over 5 months, while the meat-type male duck matured later and the first mating age was more than 6 months.

Male and female collocation ratio

The mating performance of ducks varied greatly with different breeds, and the suitable male-female ratio was 1 ∶ 2 / 25 for egg type, 1 ∶ 15 / 20 for dual-purpose duck and 1 ∶ 5 / 8 for meat type.

Age factors of breeder ducks

Generally, about 1-year-old breeding ducks have strong sexual desire and strong breeding ability. Therefore, the proportion of male ducks in duck flocks can be appropriately reduced.

Feeding and management factors

Under good feeding conditions, especially for grazing ducks, the mating performance is enhanced due to the availability of abundant animal feed. Therefore, the proportion of male ducks can be reduced appropriately.

Male and female gregarious time factor

Before the arrival of breeding season, appropriate early herding can improve the fertilization rate of female ducks. In the early stage of herding, the proportion of male ducks can be slightly higher, for example, the male-female ratio of egg-type ducks can be changed to 1 ∶ 14 / 16 / 25 after 20 days. Therefore, when mating in large groups, male ducks should be put into the female ducks as soon as possible.

Other factors

In addition to the mating ratio, variety type and other factors, the breeding performance is also affected by other factors, which can be properly adjusted according to the breeding needs.
