The number of international migrant workers and new residents is increasing day by day. The Taichung City government leads the whole country in integrating the resources of the central government, local governments and universities. It has set up three service centers in ASEAN Plaza: "International Migrant Workers 'Life Care Service Center,""ASEAN Plaza Communication and Interaction Platform," and "Four ASEAN Offices in Taiwan Mobile Service Center," to safeguard their rights and interests in Taiwan. They were inaugurated on the 8th. Mayor Lin Jialong said that this is an important milestone in the new southward policy and will promote exchanges with ASEAN countries. Taichung will become a multicultural society, starting from ASEAN Square.

Mayor Lin Jialong, Executive Yuan Administrative Member Deng Zhenzhong, Vice Mayor Zhang Guangyao, Municipal Labor Director Huang Heting, Economic Development Director Lu Yaozhi, Legislative Member Huang Guoshu, City Councilor Jiang Zhaoguo, City Councilor Zhang Yamin, City Councilor Qiu Suzhen and others inaugurated the service center. Ambassador Song Zizheng of the Central Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director He Rongcun of the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Interior, Director Huang Qiugui of the Labor Force Development Department of the Ministry of Labor and representatives of the offices of the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam were present to witness the opening. Mayor Lin also presented certificates of appreciation to the ASEAN Plaza Building Management Committee, the ASEAN Plaza 3rd Floor Autonomous Committee and volunteers for their long-term migration services.

Mayor Lin Jialong said that the establishment of three service centers by the municipal government is an important milestone in the new southward policy. Whether it is various life care, or the official, sightseeing and business information provided by the office, or even the educational and cultural exchanges provided by the communication and interaction platform of the Southeast Asian Department of Jinan University, Taichung, as a livable city, welcomes migrant workers and new residents from all countries to join.
