Morphological characteristics

Sclerotia: underground, long, massive or irregularly spherical. The surface is grayish black, uneven, wrinkled and tuberous, soft when fresh, firm and unsolid after drying. The cross section is white to grayish brown. Semi-Lignified, flexible by pressing with hands. The sizes vary, and the big ones can be 30 centimeters long and 10 centimeters in diameter.

Fruiting body: growing from the top of underground sclerotia, showing a pore-like shape, erect stipe, branching many times to form a mycelium cap. The stalk and cap are gray-white, the cap is round, the edge is thin and sharp, and it is often curled inside.

Suitable environment

Wild Polyporus umbellatus is mainly distributed in broad-leaved forest, coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest, shrub forest and bamboo forest with a slope of 20-50 degrees to the southeast and southwest. The soil should be a sandy loam with rich organic matter and high humus content. It begins to grow when the ground temperature reaches 8: 9 ℃ in the lower 5 cm, grows fast at 12-20 ℃, and forms a fruiting body at 22-25 ℃. The temperature continued to rise and entered summer dormancy, and began to grow again when the local temperature was lower than 22 ℃, and entered the hibernating period when the ground temperature dropped to 8 ℃. Like the dry environment, when the soil water content is 30% to 50%, it grows well. It is distributed in Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia and other places in China, mainly in Shanxi, Shaanxi and Gansu.
