How to control red spider is a difficult problem in orange orchard management. Because red spider lays a large number of eggs, its growth period is short, and its multiple generations are repeated, it is difficult to control red spider. Using chemicals to control red spider not only increases the burden of fruit growers, but also has not ideal effect. This paper introduces a simple and effective method to control red spider in orange orchard.

Perilla frutescens L. is a traditional medicinal and edible plant in China. It has been planted for more than 2000 years in China. It can emit a unique aromatic smell. This smell has fatal lethality to red spiders. It can suffocate female red spiders, eggs cannot hatch, and larvae cannot survive. The specific planting methods are as follows:

50- 100g perilla seeds per mu, 3- 4kg dry sand mixed, seed and sand mixed evenly, the same amount in spring scattered in the rows of fruit trees, without any management thereafter. Can also be transplanted seedlings, when Perilla has 2-3 true leaves, in the summer selection seedlings transplanted orange garden, in the citrus crown drip line, in the east, west, north and south of a variety of 1-2 plants. When Perilla seedlings grow 8-10 leaves, they can release enough aromatic gas to inhibit the growth and reproduction of red spiders.

Perilla has strong adaptability and can grow well in different soils. The growth period is from April to November, which coincides with the occurrence period of orange red spider. Therefore, it is a good method to control red spider discomfort. It is worth noting that during the growth period of perilla, auxin must not be sprayed on orange trees, otherwise it will cause perilla leaves to wilt and plants to die.
