Plantain seed is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine, which comes from the dry and mature seeds of Plantago asiatica and Plantaginaceae. It tastes sweet and cold, and has the effects of diuresis, clearing heat and clear eyes, expectorant and cough.

Plantain is a perennial herb, like warm, sunny, moist environment, afraid of waterlogging, drought, suitable for growing in fertile sandy loam.

I. cultivation methods

1. Raising mu: fertilizing the living soil, turning deeply, applying sufficient basic fertilizer, making the bed, sowing time before and after Cold Dew, sowing seeds evenly on the border surface, sowing rate of 0.5kg / mu. After sowing, it is covered with straw. Watering every 3-5 days after planting to keep the soil moist and promote germination. Remove the straw after emergence and transplant when the seedling is 7-10 cm high.

2. Transplanting: construct sufficient base fertilizer before planting, pay attention to open the drainage ditch, transplant between Lesser Snow and heavy snow, row spacing 25 cm, 1 plant per hole, plant along with pulling, watering and stabilizing the root after planting.

3. Post-transplanting management: three times of ploughing, weeding and topdressing were carried out 5 days after the seedlings turned green, the first from Lesser Cold to Greater Cold, the second from the Beginning of Spring to Rain Water, and the third from stinging to the Spring Equinox. Each topdressing should choose a sunny day, first ploughing and weeding, and then fertilization. Fertilizer can be used for human and animal baking or urea, the third fertilization to increase the application of potash fertilizer, 30 kg per mu, combined with upstream when ploughing to prevent plant lodging.

Second, harvest and processing before and after the Dragon Boat Festival, when the seeds are dark brown, they can be harvested. Plantain seeds are mature by stages and should be harvested at the same time. On a sunny day, cut back the ears with a sickle and pile them indoors for 1-2 days, then put them on a bamboo mat and expose them in the sun, knead them with your hands after drying, remove sundries, screen the seeds with a sieve, and shell them with a windmill. The average yield per mu is 120-150 kg.
