Bupleurum chinense L. main varieties are Bupleurum chinense L., narrow leaf Bupleurum chinense L., roots or whole herbs used as medicine. Bupleurum angustifolia is mainly produced in Northeast China, North China, Northwest China, East China and other places, Hubei Province, Sichuan Province also has distribution.

Growth habits Bupleurum chinense is born on hillsides and grasslands. Adaptability strong, like slightly cold and humid climate, cold, drought, avoid high temperature, afraid of water. Seedlings like shade, can be a little shade, late growth like light. Avoid continuous cropping. The growth and development can be divided into four stages: vigorous growth stage of stem and leaf (from green to bud appearance, rapid growth of stem and leaf, April to June), vigorous growth stage of root (slow growth of stem and leaf, rapid growth of root, June to September), late growth stage of root (slow growth or stop of stem and leaf, root weight still increasing, September to October), overwintering stage (from withered ground to green in the following year). The first year of seed reproduction has seedling stage (seed germination to seedling height 6~10 cm).

cultivation techniques

Land selection and preparation: it is advisable to choose loose fertile, well-drained sandy loam or humus-rich hillside land for planting, and it is not advisable to plant in clay and water-prone plots. Before sowing, apply enough base fertilizer, generally apply manure 2500~3000 kg per mu, calcium superphosphate 50 kg, deep ploughing 25~30 cm after application, leveling and harrowing fine, making ridges or ridging to be sown, ridge width 1.2 m, height 15 cm or ridge width 60 cm, ridge height 20 cm. Propagation methods: seed propagation, direct seeding or seedling transplantation. The germination rate of seeds is about 50%, the temperature is about 20℃, and the seedlings emerge 15 days after sowing. Direct seeding is best sown in late autumn, before freezing in winter or mid-late April in spring. Ditch the furrow according to the row spacing of 15~20 cm, and the furrow depth is 1.5~2 cm. Spread the stratified seeds evenly in the furrow, cover the soil with 1 cm thick, and slightly press the straw to cover the moisture. The sowing rate is 1~1.5 kg per mu. Generally autumn sowing is better than spring sowing. Spring sowing can be intercropped with corn. The seedlings were transplanted in the middle and late April. Seeds soaked in warm water at 20℃ or 3% hydrogen peroxide for 24 hours can improve germination rate. The stratified seeds are soaked in warm water at 35℃ for 12 hours, then taken out and dried for sowing. Often broadcast, can also be drilled, row spacing 10 cm, open 1.5~2 cm shallow ditch, the seeds evenly scattered into the ditch, covered with soil, watering moisture after covering grass. Seedling height 5~6 cm with soil transplanting, row spacing 15~20 cm, plant spacing 6~10 cm, watering in time after planting. It can also be transplanted after autumn re-seedling.

field management

After emergence, we should often loosen the soil and weed. When the seedling height is 5~6 cm, thinning is carried out. When the seedling height is more than 10 cm, the seedling is fixed according to the plant spacing of about 10 cm. Combined with loosening and weeding, topdressing calcium superphosphate 15kg (if base fertilizer has been applied, it may not be applied), ammonium sulfate 5~ 8kg or urea 5kg per mu after seedling setting. Be careful not to apply to seedlings or bruise stems. Before emergence or after transplanting, water should be regularly watered to keep moisture. In case of ponding in rainy season, drainage should be carried out in time to prevent ponding and rotten roots. Bupleurum chinense only grows stems and leaves in the first year, rarely blooms, and blooms in the second year. Attention should be paid to retaining seeds. Those that do not leave seeds should be picked in time to concentrate nutrients to promote root growth.
