The main disease of Coptis chinensis is powdery mildew, followed by white spot and root rot. The pest is slug. At ordinary times, we should inspect the Yunhuanglian base and strengthen the prevention and control of diseases and insect pests.

The disease powdery mildew mostly occurred on the new leaves of the same year, with white powdery matter, then flooded, and the leaves gradually turned reddish brown. The seedlings could turn green when applied with pig manure water, and then sprayed with 0.3 Mel 0.5 degree stone sulfur mixture, or sprayed with 1000 times solution of topiramate. The planting of Rhizoma Coptidis should not be continuous cropping, if continuous cropping will often lead to white spot and root rot. It can be prevented by applying sulfur powder in the soil (2.5 kg sulfur powder and 100 kg organic fertilizer per mu).

Pest slugs eat leaf buds and can be sprayed with quicklime powder shortly after weathering in the evening or early morning.
