Ginseng seeds have the characteristics of slow growth and development, so the sowing date is also different from other crops, as long as the soil is not frozen, it can be sown. According to the degree of seed development and climate characteristics, it is generally divided into three periods: spring sowing, summer sowing (summer sowing) and autumn sowing.

Spring sowing: sowing can be carried out around the end of April when the soil is thawed. If the seeds are sown in spring, they can emerge in the same year. Dried seeds can also be sowed, and seedlings will emerge in the following spring, but they are not used because they need to be managed after sowing.

Summer sowing: also known as summer sowing, multi-sowing Qianzi. Areas with a short frost-free period are required to finish the broadcast by the end of June. In areas with a long frost-free period, the sowing of dried seeds can be delayed to the first or middle of July. It is better to finish sowing water before the first ten days of August, otherwise it will affect the emergence of ginseng the following year.

Autumn sowing: sowing in autumn, more than seeds sown in mid-and late-October.

Each of the three sowing periods has its own advantages and disadvantages. Spring sowing seeds can emerge in the same year, but often because of spring drought, because of border sowing, aggravate soil drought and affect seedling emergence rate. Summer sowing can only sow dried seeds and water seeds, and proper field management should be carried out after sowing, thus increasing the amount of labor. However, the cumbersome procedures of artificial budding are omitted to avoid losses caused by poor management during budding. Autumn sowing is conducive to spring emergence, and various localities make more use of this period of sowing.
