OIE certification for swine fever research by Animal Health Laboratory of Council of Agriculture

Classical Swine Fever Research in the Animal Health Laboratory of the Council of Agriculture was certified by OIE

The eighth top classical swine fever reference laboratory in the world held an unveiling ceremony on the 6th at the Animal Health Laboratory of the Council of Agriculture (hereinafter referred to as the Animal Health Institute). Lin Congxian, chairman of the Council of Agriculture, issued the "OIE Classical Swine Fever reference Laboratory Certificate" to Dr. Zhang Jiayi of the classical swine fever research group of the institute, commending him for his continuous efforts in his work and accumulating research achievements on classical swine fever, which was finally recognized by international organizations and made outstanding contributions to the work of animal epidemic prevention in China.

The Council of Agriculture said that in determining the qualification of the reference laboratory, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) mainly considers the research results, laboratory equipment and management of laboratory experts, as well as whether it actively interacts effectively with researchers and experts in the same field, and can provide scientific and technical Olympic assistance and consultation, etc., so it is a great honor for the Animal Health Institute to obtain OIE certification to become a classical swine fever diagnosis reference laboratory.

The reference laboratory has an arduous task, not only to assist member States in the diagnosis of animal disease-related cases, to provide timely diagnostic techniques and kits, but also to strengthen research energy and establish new diagnostic methods to share with OIE member States. In addition, training in disease diagnosis techniques for member States, inter-laboratory cooperation and capability evaluation, and promotion of animal disease control and resource sharing among OIE members should also be provided.

According to Livestock Health, classical swine fever has been studied for many years, from the early successful research and development of rabbinized classical swine fever vaccine to effectively control this major malignant infectious disease that threatens Taiwan's pig industry, to now it has obtained OIE certification with Germany, Britain, Poland, Canada, Japan, Chinese mainland and Spain, and has been listed as one of the eight top classical swine fever reference laboratories in the world by OIE. In the future, the administrative measures of the classical swine fever eradication plan will steadily achieve the goal of fighting classical swine fever.
