Litchi stink weevil control Taichung Municipal Bureau of Agriculture holds lectures to impart skills
The litchi stink bug crisis occurred in Taichung City this year, causing harm to fruit trees. If frightened, it will also spew out stinky liquid, and carelessly touching it will cause skin burning. In order to enable the public to have a better understanding of the litchi stink bugs, the Taichung Municipal Bureau of Agriculture held a lecture on "understanding the litchi stink bugs and their control methods" at the Yangming Municipal Building on the 7th. Huang Yubin, an assistant researcher at the Agricultural Experimental Institute of the Agricultural Commission of the Executive Yuan, was invited to give a lecture, attracting nearly 200 people to participate, and the on-site discussion was heated.
Assistant researcher Huang Yubin said that litchi stink weevil is an insect of Hemiptera, which harms new shoots and buds of plants. The main host plants are longan, litchi, Taiwan Koelreuteria and other disease-free crops. Its life history can be divided into egg stage, nymph stage and adult stage. The eggs are spherical, often 14 eggs gather, the new eggs are light green, and the color turns dark before hatching. Because the eggs are non-toxic, the public can pierce them and remove them when they are found. Reduce the hatching of worms. People should pay more attention to outdoor activities. If you find litchi stink bugs, do not alarm and stay away as soon as possible.
Litchi stink bugs were found for the first time in Taichung last year because their adults will survive the winter and the climate is warmer this winter, which has triggered a crisis in Taichung City. In addition to the traces of litchi stink bugs can be seen on campuses, parks and street trees, some people also find worm eggs on clothes dried. The Bureau of Agriculture said that litchi stink bugs found in different locations will be dealt with by the competent authorities. If members of the public find anything, they can call 1999 to report it, and will ask the relevant units to deal with it as soon as possible.
The Bureau of Agriculture points out that in order to prevent and control the damage to fruit trees caused by litchi stink bugs, this year, farmers are also subsidized to buy safe chemicals, and they are also actively conducting agricultural lectures. Farmers or interested people are welcome to sign up for free.
