Liquoric root, also known as sweet grass roots, is a leguminous medicinal plant, roots and strong stems into medicine, there are spleen qi, heat detoxification, lungs cough, reconciliation of the role of various drugs. Licorices like dry climate, cold resistance, suitable for deep soil layer, good drainage, low groundwater level, rich in calcium sandy soil planting, soil to neutral or slightly alkaline is appropriate. Waterlogging depression, high groundwater level, acid soil is not suitable for planting.

Licorices are generally propagated by roots and strong stems. After harvesting licorice in autumn or spring, thick roots are used as medicine, fine roots and strong stems are selected as seeds, and small sections of 10-15 cm are cut, and each section has 2-3 buds. In autumn, soil is deeply ploughed by 30-50 cm, base fertilizer is applied, manure is applied by 2500 kg per mu, calcium superphosphate is applied by 200 kg per mu, and ploughing is carried out. Sowing in the first ten days of April in the spring of the next year, trenching according to the row spacing of 30 cm, ditch depth of about 10 cm, placing the roots and strong stems flat in the ditch according to the plant spacing of 10-15 cm, covering the soil, raking, filling, watering and mulching. It can also be used for centralized seedling cultivation, scattered transplanting, ridge cultivation, and covering with straw or plastic film.

Licorices should always keep the soil moist before and after emergence, so as to facilitate emergence and seedling production, and water in time for drought. When seedlings grow 2-3 true leaves, they should be thinned. After seedling setting, the plant spacing should be 10-13 cm. Weeding should be done in time during seedling stage. When plants grow up, roots and strong stems should be exposed to the ground. Soil should be cultivated properly. There are big nests to uproot, and others to hoe. In winter, 2000-2500 kg of soil fertilizer can be applied per mu. After two years of cultivation, the roots and strong stems of licorice are already covered with the whole lot, so special management is not needed.

Licorices have rust, brown spot disease, powdery mildew and other diseases and aphids, red spiders and other pests. Rust is controlled by 0.30- 0.40% of sulfur mixture or 97% of sodium diruste 400 times solution; brown spot 1:1:100-160 bordeaux mixture or 70% thiophanate-methyl WP 1500-2000 times solution; powdery mildew is controlled by 0.20- 0.30% of sulfur mixture; aphids are controlled by 50% fenitrothion 1000-2000 times solution or 40% dimethoate EC 1500-2000 times solution; Red spider is sprayed with 20% dicofol 1500-2000 times solution or 25% chlordimeform 500-1000 times solution once a week for several consecutive times.

Licorices can be harvested 2-3 years after planting, and harvested in late September-early October when the stems and leaves on the ground wither. Liquoric root deep, must dig deeply, do not cut off or hurt the root skin, dig out after removing residual stems, soil, avoid washing with water, take advantage of fresh separation of main roots and lateral roots, sun to half dry, bundle into small handles, and then sun to completely dry medicine.
