The origin of oranges is China, and oranges have been cultivated in China for more than 4000 years, mainly from the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the south of the Yangtze River. The specific location can not be clearly explained after thousands of years of cultivation. Oranges have been spread all over Eurasia by Arabs. Oranges in China are distributed between 1637 °N and 2600 m above sea level (Batang, Sichuan), starting from Sanya City in Hainan Province in the south, Shaanxi, Gansu and Henan in the north, Taiwan Province in the east and the Yarlung Zangbo River valley in Xizang in the west. However, the economic cultivation areas of citrus in China are mainly concentrated between 20-33 °N and below 700-1000 m above sea level. Citrus is produced in 19 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions), including Taiwan Province, among which 10 provinces (cities and regions) mainly produce oranges, including Zhejiang, Fujian, Hunan, Sichuan, Guangxi, Hubei, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Chongqing and Taiwan. followed by Shanghai, Guizhou, Yunnan, Jiangsu and other provinces (cities), it is also grown in Shaanxi, Henan, Hainan, Anhui and Gansu provinces, with 985 counties (cities and regions) growing citrus in the country.

The world distribution of oranges

Oranges in the world are mainly distributed in the area south of latitude 35 °N, which is warm and humid, and the area with large water body warming can be pushed northward to latitude 45 °N. There are 135countries in the world that produce citrus, with an annual output of 102.822 million tons, covering an area of 107.3 million mu, ranking first among 100 fruits, Brazil with 24.2526 million tons, the United States with 16.3352 million tons, China third with 10.78 million tons, followed by Mexico, Spain, Iran, India, Italy and other countries.

The producing environment of oranges

1. Temperature: the temperature for the growth and development of orange fruit is 12.5-37 ℃, and the temperature for flower bud differentiation in autumn is about 20 ℃ and 10 ℃, respectively. The soil temperature of root growth is about the same as that of aboveground. High temperature was also not conducive to the growth and development of citrus. The fruit and root system stopped growing when the air temperature and soil temperature were higher than 37 ℃.

2. Illumination: orange is a shade-tolerant tree species, but good sunshine is still needed for high quality and high yield. In general, the areas with annual sunshine hours of 1200 to 2200 hours can grow normally. For example, compared with Chongqing citrus producing areas with good sunshine and rich heat, South China has high sugar content, low acid content and high sugar-acid ratio.

3. Humidity: oranges are suitable for planting in tropical and subtropical regions with an annual rainfall of about 1000 mm. The relative water content of the soil is 60% 80%. If the relative water content of the soil is less than 60%, it needs irrigation. Too much Rain Water causes stagnant water in the soil or high groundwater level. it can kill the roots in citrus orchards with poor drainage.

4. Soil: orange can adapt to a wide range of soil, purple soil, red-yellow soil, beach and coastal, ph 4.5-8 can grow, ph 5.5-6.5 is the most suitable. High oxygen content is required for root growth, and the soil with loose texture, good structure, 20.3% organic matter and good drainage is the most suitable.
