Guava is a highly adaptable tropical fruit tree, native to tropical America, spread to tropical and subtropical regions of the world in the 16th-17th century, and was introduced into China at the end of the 17th century. China's Taiwan, Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Jiangxi, Yunnan and other provinces have been cultivated, some places have become wild fruit trees, let's take a look at how to plant guava seeds!

Seed selection

The seeds for seedling growth of guava should come from excellent varieties, high-yield and high-quality mother plants and fully ripe fruits, let them rot after harvest, wash the seeds, float away the unfilled seeds, and sow them after drying. Although the viability of guava seeds can be maintained for more than one year at room temperature, fresh seeds have strong vitality, high germination rate and good germination energy, so it is generally better to pick and sow.

Soaking seeds to accelerate germination

The shell of guava seed is hard and not easy to absorb water, so it takes a long time to soak and accelerate germination before sowing, and only take out and sow when the seed embryo is exposed, germinate all day and the germination rate is high. Soaking seeds with 0.1-0.3% gibberellin (920) for 12 hours before sowing has a good effect on shortening germination time, increasing germination rate and accelerating seedling growth.

Sowing method

Guava seeds are small, so if the seedbed is sown directly, the seedbed should be small and flat, cover with fine soil or sand and spread evenly, then cover the fine soil with a thickness of about 0.2 cm. Cover the grass with water after sowing and drench it once or twice a day depending on the weather. Guava can also be sown in a sand bed, germinate 30 to 40 days after sowing, and transplant into a nutrition bag or seedbed when it grows to 2 or 3 pairs of true leaves. If the seedling is raised in a nutrition bag, add a small amount of pig and cow pen manure and phosphate fertilizer with fertilizer topsoil and keep it moist after transplantation. the seedling height is about 10 cm and begins to apply fertilizer once a month. The height of the seedling is more than 40 cm, which can be grafted or planted. Generally sowed in autumn, it can be grafted and planted in the following spring.
