Guava, also known as guava, chicken dung fruit, extract seed, etc., is a tree plant of guava in Myrtle family, native to South America and cultivated in South China. The bark of guava is smooth and gray, and the shoots are angled and hairy. Leaf blade leathery, oblong to elliptic, apex acute or obtuse, base nearly rounded, slightly scabrous above, hairy below, reticulate veins conspicuous. Flowers solitary or 3 arranged in Cymes, calyx tube campanulate, calyx cap suborbicular, petals white, ovary inferior connate with calyx, style as long as stamens. The berries are globose, ovoid or pear-shaped, with persistent sepals at the top, white and yellow pulp, hypertrophic placenta and numerous seeds.

Guava is a highly adaptable tropical fruit tree, which spread to tropical and subtropical regions of the world in the 16th and 17th centuries, such as North America, Oceania, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, North Africa, Vietnam and so on. It was introduced into China at the end of the 17th century and cultivated in Taiwan, Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Jiangxi, Yunnan and other provinces.

Guava trees are often born in wasteland or low hills. They are suitable for tropical climate and are afraid of frost. Young trees will freeze to death when the temperature is-1 to 2 ℃. The average temperature for growth should be above 15 ℃ in summer. The cultivation and growth of sandy loam and clay loam with good drainage is better, and the soil pH value of 4.5 ~ 8.0 can be planted.
