Sunflower is also called Chaoyang flower, turning lotus, sunflower, etc. It is a sunflower plant of Compositae family. Its origin is South America. It is cultivated all over China. The seed is called sunflower seed. It is often fried and eaten as a snack. It can also be squeezed sunflower oil for consumption. Oil residue can be used as feed. Let's take a look at when sunflower matures.

When do sunflowers mature?

The maturity time of sunflower is closely related to the sowing time. Sunflowers planted in spring generally mature from July to September. When they bloom, yellow flowers in sunflower fields bloom in the sun. From July to September, melon seeds can be preserved for a long time after drying. At the same time, sunflower varieties are different, and the maturity time is slightly different.

When do sunflowers sow?

The sowing time of sunflower is 3~4 months, the suitable temperature for sowing is 18~25℃, and it sprouts about 5~7 days after sowing. The basic principle of sowing date selection is to sow early or late according to the law of saline-alkali occurrence, so that seedlings can avoid saline-alkali damage. Spring or summer sowing is carried out according to the growth period of the variety. The sowing date was adjusted according to the disease occurrence law to avoid the disease season. According to the growth characteristics, the sowing date was adjusted to avoid the high temperature weather above 28℃ during flowering and filling stage. The sowing method is dibbling, covering soil about 1 cm, and flowering about 50~80 days after sowing, with slight differences due to different varieties.

Sunflower growth cycle

1, seedling stage: sunflower from emergence to bud called seedling stage, generally takes 35 to 50 days, summer sowing 28 to 35 days. This stage is leaf, flower primordium formation and floret differentiation stage. Sunflower seedling stage is the stage with the strongest drought resistance. The aboveground part grows slowly, and the underground part grows rapidly, forming a strong root system soon.

2, bud stage: sunflower from bud to flowering generally takes about 20 days, for vegetative growth and reproductive growth go hand in hand, but also the most vigorous stage of life. This period requires the most fertilizer and water, accounting for about 40~50% of the total fertilizer and water requirements. If the demand for water and fertilizer cannot be met in time, the yield will be seriously affected.

3. Flowering period: It generally takes 6~9 days for a sunflower disk to bloom from the ligulate flower to the tubular flower. From the second day to the fifth day, it is full bloom, mostly at 4~6 o'clock in the morning, pollinated the next morning, unpollinated branches can be maintained for 7~10 days, but the self-pollinated seed setting rate is only about 3%, and the cross-pollinated seed setting rate is high.

4, mature period: sunflower mature period refers to the stage from flowering to maturity, spring sowing 25~55 days, summer sowing 25~40 days, different varieties have differences. The seed formation stage is about 15 days after flowering shield pollination. Sunflower maturity period needs sunny weather, large temperature difference between daytime and suitable soil moisture.
