Phyllostachys pubescens (Gramineae)

It originated from Japan and was successfully introduced and cultivated in Xi'an.

Ornamental ground cover bamboo, tufted, internodes glabrous, culms with 2 to several branches per node or 1 branch in lower part. The leaf blade is narrowly lanceolate with yellow-white longitudinal stripes on the green base. There are culm hairs on the edge, subglabrous on both sides, obvious small transverse veins, petiole very short, leaf sheath light green, one edge with obvious culm hairs, and several white ciliates at the mouth of the sheath. The shooting period is from April to June.

Like warm and humid climate, shade and cold tolerance, avoid the scorching sun, should be planted in fertile, loose and well-drained sandy soil.

It is mainly propagated by ramets. The growing mother plant with underground stem soil was dug out in February-March or September-October, and divided into several plants along with the stubble, which should be planted as they were dug.

The plant is low, the leaf is beautiful, often planted in the courtyard to watch; or used as a quilt can also be arranged next to the rockery, at the same time in the north more common in potted plants, unique interest, it has a rare and valuable variety of ornamental bamboo.
