For the bonsai stump, the pre-production and post-maintenance is as important, if your stump bonsai production is very good-looking, but the later maintenance is improper, or will lose the ornamental value. The editor will introduce to you the fertilization methods and matters needing attention of tree stump bonsai.

Bonsai tree stump

The soil in the pot of tree stump bonsai is limited, so the nutrients are also limited, so we should pay attention to the supplement of fertilizer. Because of its artistic characteristics, tree stump bonsai should not be fertilized too much or too frequently. It is necessary to master the content and types of fertilization and grasp the fertilization season. The three elements of plant growth nutrients are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, nitrogen fertilizer can promote the growth of branches and leaves, phosphorus fertilizer can promote the formation of flowers and fruits, and potassium fertilizer can promote the growth of stem and root. therefore, the selection of fertilizer should be determined according to the type of tree stump and its growth trend.

If you need to make the stump flourish, you can apply more nitrogen fertilizer; if you need more flowers and fruits, you can increase the content of phosphate fertilizer; when you need strong roots, you can apply more potash fertilizer. Fertilization methods are generally divided into late fertilization and quick fertilization. Delayed fertilization generally mixes organic fertilizer into the soil according to a certain proportion after crushing and maturing, and when changing soil, it is mixed into the basin to slowly provide nutrients; quick-acting fertilization is to dilute organic fertilizer or chemical fertilizer. Fertilization is carried out according to the seasonal growth needs of tree stumps, but it should not be too thick, newly planted tree stumps should not be fertilized in rainy days, fertilizer efficiency is lost, and the effect is not good.

Fertilization of tree stump bonsai

The fertilization of tree stump bonsai is very fastidious, too much fertilization, branches and leaves grow; lack of fertilizer, branches are thin and weak, leaves turn yellow, and are vulnerable to diseases and insect pests. Therefore, we should apply fertilizer scientifically according to time, quantity, fertilizer and tree species. (1) because of the new planting, the potted trees which are newly planted or newly changed soil will not be fertilized temporarily because of the damage to their roots, and more fertilizer will be applied during the peak growing season at the beginning of spring or early summer next year. The slow growth of potted trees in autumn should be fertilized less, and fertilizing should be stopped when potted trees have entered the dormant period in winter. It is not suitable to apply fertilizer around noon in rainy days or high temperature in summer, because fertilization in rainy days is easy to lose and damage the root system. Fertilization is the best in cloudy days or in the evening. When the basin soil is slightly dry, first remove weeds and loosen the soil, which is conducive to fertilizer infiltration into the soil, accelerate fertilizer decomposition and absorption, and avoid fertilizer damage at the same time. (2) according to the amount of bonsai fertilizer applied by tree stump, we should grasp the principle of applying a small amount of fertilizer for many times, and the amount of fertilizer should be less and sparse each time. Generally speaking, the Beginning of Spring applied rarefied fertilizer and water (7% water and 3% fertilizer) to the Beginning of Autumn every 10 days, but did not apply fertilizer after the Beginning of Winter. (3) due to the luxuriant growth and more buds, the commonly used nitrogen fertilizers are bean cake, ammonium sulfate and fertilizer and water. Phosphate fertilizer promotes colorful flowers and fruits, such as calcium superphosphate bone powder and so on. Potash fertilizer promotes the development of root system and firm plant, such as potassium fluidic acid, plant ash and so on. It is necessary to apply fertilizer separately according to the growth of the plant, and at the same time, it should be controlled flexibly according to the characteristics and growth of the tree species.

Three key points of fertilization for tree stump bonsai in four seasons

The fertilization method of stump bonsai is very important. if you fertilize too much, the branches will grow; if you lack fertilizer, the branches will be thin and weak, the leaves will turn yellow, and you will be vulnerable to diseases and insect pests. So, here are three ways to apply fertilizer scientifically:

One is because of quantity. The principle of applying a small amount of fertilizer to bonsai should be grasped, each time should be small and thin; large stumps and bonsai with luxuriant branches and leaves should be fertilized more appropriately; otherwise, less fertilizer should be applied. Generally speaking, during the long and vigorous growth period from the Beginning of Spring to the Beginning of Autumn, thin fertilizer and water should be applied every 10 days, that is, 7 parts of water and 3 parts of fertilizer. Extra-root fertilization with 46% liquid fertilizers such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate, Chunquan 883, Feilibao, Huimanfeng and other liquid fertilizers will be better. Fertilizer can be applied every 20 days after the beginning of autumn, and the amount of fertilizer should be gradually reduced. After the Beginning of Winter, there will be no more fertilization.

Second, because of fat. Nitrogen fertilizer can promote plant growth and more buds, commonly used nitrogen fertilizers are bean cake, ammonium sulfate, urea and human and animal faeces matured at high temperature; phosphate fertilizer promotes bright flowers and colors and fruit hypertrophy, such as calcium superphosphate and broken aggregate. Spraying potassium dihydrogen phosphate outside the root; potassium fertilizer promotes root development, material transport, plant firmness, such as potassium sulfate, potassium chloride, plant ash, etc., and can also be sprayed with potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution outside the root; at the same time, it should be fertilized separately according to the growth of the plant, and should be flexibly mastered according to the characteristics and growth of the tree species.

Third, because of time. The stump bonsai of newly planted, newly potted or newly changed soil may not be fertilized for the time being due to root damage, and more fertilizer should be applied when the potted trees grow slowly in the coming spring or early summer and when the potted trees grow vigorously. In winter, potted trees should stop fertilizing when they have entered the dormant period; fertilization should not be applied on rainy days or around noon of high temperature in summer, as fertilization is easy to be lost in rainy days and easy to hurt roots. And at high temperature, rapid evaporation of water leads to excessive concentration of fertilizer solution, which leads to root burning; fertilization is best on cloudy days or in the evening; if the basin soil is slightly dry, weeds in the basin should be removed first, and the soil should be loosened before fertilization; this is beneficial for fertilizer and water to infiltrate into the soil, promote fertilizer decomposition and absorption and utilization, and avoid drug damage at the same time.
