The construction of the first batch of characteristic towns is expected to start in April.
The government work report points out that this year, Xinjiang will speed up urbanization and the construction of a new countryside, strive to cultivate a number of small and medium-sized cities, border port cities, and small towns with characteristics, and focus on promoting the construction of villages and towns with characteristics in southern Xinjiang.
On January 10, Zhang Hong, deputy to the Autonomous Regional people's Congress and secretary of the party group and deputy director of the Autonomous Regional Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department, revealed that at present, the research work has been completed, and the construction of the first batch of 33 small towns with characteristics is expected to start in April.
Not long ago, the working conference on the development and reform of the autonomous region revealed that Xinjiang will start the construction of small towns with characteristics in four prefectures in southern Xinjiang this year, which is not only an important engine for promoting the development of southern Xinjiang, but also a strategic measure to balance urban and rural development.
Zhang Hong told reporters that the first batch of 33 small towns with characteristics built in pilot projects are mainly concentrated in Hotan, Aksu, Kashgar and Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture. The construction of small towns with characteristics should combine the construction of new countryside, agricultural industrialization, characteristic tourism and so on.
It is understood that on October 14 last year, the Ministry of Housing and Construction announced a list of the first batch of 127 small towns with Chinese characteristics, including four in Xinjiang, including Seribuya Town, Bachu County, Kashi Prefecture, Xinjiang; Wulanwusu Town, Shawan County, Tacheng District; Kokotuohai Town, Fuyun County, Altay region; and Beiquan Town, Shihezi City, eighth Division of Xinjiang production and Construction Corps. These four places were rated as small towns with Chinese characteristics. For the first batch of small towns with Chinese characteristics, the central finance will give appropriate rewards to small towns with Chinese characteristics that do a good job.
