According to the latest data released by the State Forestry Administration, 1198 new varieties of forestry plants have been authorized in China by the end of 2016.

According to reports, in recent years, the work of forestry intellectual property rights in China has been further strengthened. The State Forestry Administration focuses on implementing the national intellectual property strategic action plan and building a powerful country of intellectual property rights. We will fully implement the guidelines of the State Forestry Administration on the implementation of the outline of the National intellectual property Strategy and the National Forestry intellectual property Development Plan (2013Kui 2020), starting with organizing and implementing the 2016 Forestry implementation Plan for accelerating the Construction of intellectual property Power, we will make every effort to promote the work of forestry intellectual property. It has effectively improved the level of creation, application, protection and management of forestry intellectual property rights, achieved remarkable results, accelerated the transformation of forestry development mode, and enhanced the core competitiveness of forestry. In 2016, the State Forestry Administration issued the Protection list of New Plant varieties of the people's Republic of China (Forestry part) (the sixth batch), which totaled 206 genera (species).

It is understood that with the implementation of a series of policies and measures, the ability of independent innovation in forestry has been continuously enhanced, the number of new varieties of forestry plants and related intellectual property rights has increased steadily, and the quality has been significantly improved. In 2016, the State Forestry Administration accepted 400 applications for new plant variety rights at home and abroad, and granted 195 new plant variety rights. By the end of 2016, China had accepted a total of 2188 applications for new varieties of forestry plants, 827 geographical indications of forest products and 5231 copyright registrations of forestry software.
