Straight-dry bonsai, as the name implies, is that the trunk is upright, branching at a certain height, imitating the towering, tall and straight tree posture of nature. As the straight-dry bonsai requires the trunk to stand upright, so the focus of modeling is on the branches and leaves, different tree species, branches and leaves are different, the modeling techniques are also various; the following will focus on some skills of doing straight-dry bonsai.

First, the standard straight-dry bonsai should be tall and straight, thick and thin at the bottom, with flat branches on both sides of the trunk, and the exposed roots should extend in all directions and grasp the ground forcefully. Usually the lowest branch should be the longest, showing a state of decline, with the middle branch spreading or slightly pressing down, and the upper branch rising slightly.

The uppermost parietal branch can be S-shaped for easy topping, but the center of gravity can not deviate from the central axis of the trunk.

Second, in the production of bonsai, we often encounter some dry and upright, ordinary tree stumps, which always make people feel that they have no place to start, leaving them unmanaged, and in the end, many of them have become firewood, a serious waste of resources. For these piles, we can use the splitting method under the hard hand, often can turn decay into magic, there are several specific splitting methods.

1 split a trunk from top to bottom, reaching about 1/3 of the depth of the trunk, and the upper part of the trunk is preferably thicker than the lower part.

2 split from the middle of the trunk, split into two, pay attention to the position of the branches after survival, and try to be natural.

3 split and extend from the root to the dry body, only the upper part of the trunk is connected together, and the root can also be sandwiched with stone, the size and shape of the stone should be used flexibly according to the shape.

Finally, I would also like to add that no matter which shape of the bonsai is used, it should be shallow rather than deep. The shallow basin can set off the towering power of the trees and soar to the sky.
