Watering is very important in the maintenance of bonsai. If it is not watered in time, the plant will easily die from lack of water, and if it is watered too much, there will be rotten roots and other phenomena. You certainly don't know how to judge whether the bonsai is dry or wet. There are several ways to judge.

1. Watch the growth of the plant

The most direct thing is to look at the growth of the plant, if the leaves of the plant begin to wilt, it must be that the bonsai is too dry, the plant is short of water, and it needs to be watered in time. However, we should also pay attention to rule out the natural growth of plants, for example, in autumn and winter, the leaves of some plants will wither on their own.

2. Observe the color of the basin soil.

Can not see from the situation of the plant, then see if the color of the soil in the basin has changed. Generally, after the basin soil dries, the color will become light and white. If it becomes light white, then the bonsai is already very dry and needs to be watered in time. If the color is still dark brown and other dark colors, then it means that the basin soil still has a certain degree of humidity and does not need to be watered.

3. Knock on the basin to listen to the sound

Gently tap the pot wall in the middle of the flowerpot with your hand, and then listen to the sound. If the sound is dull, then the soil in the basin is still wet, and there is no need to water the bonsai for the time being; if the sound is brittle, the soil in the basin has become very dry and is in urgent need of watering.

4. Feel the texture of the soil by inserting it into the soil by hand

When you are not sure whether the bonsai is dry or wet, you can insert your hand into the basin, which is about 2 centimeters deep. If you feel that the soil inside is soft and the hands are still damp, it means that the basin soil is not dry or wet; if you feel that the soil is very rough and hard, and grind your hands, it means that the basin soil is very dry and needs watering.

5. Pinch the soil

If you pinch up part of the soil of the bonsai, if the soil can be pinched into a ball, it means that the soil is wet; if the soil is pinched into powder, it means that the soil is dry and needs watering.

Of course, the above methods are only experience, in fact, it still depends on the specific growth habits of plants, such as some plants like a moist environment, so it is necessary to keep the soil wet, while some plants like a dry environment, it is necessary to keep the soil dry. Therefore, after judging the dry and wet state of the soil in the bonsai, whether it should be watered depends on the specific water demand of the plant.

In addition, the above methods are only a rough look at the dry and wet soil in the basin, and can not get an accurate value. If you want to know the accurate dry and humidity, it is best to use a soil hygrometer. As long as you put the hygrometer into the basin, you can accurately grasp the dry and wet condition of the basin soil at all times, thus you can decide whether you need watering or not.
