If you have seen the snow leopard introduced on June 9 in the species calendar, you will never forget the "women's wear boss" snow leopard ice, and you must remember "Wild Xinjiang".

"Wild Xinjiang" is the abbreviation of "Wild Xinjiang Volunteer team", a Xinjiang non-governmental environmental protection organization dedicated to the investigation and protection of alpine ecosystem. It is we who, in recent years, have found that the metropolis of Urumqi is surrounded by snow leopards.

There are two things that fascinate us most in the Snow Leopard survey. One is to capture traces in the wild-footprints, feces, suitable cliffs, through which we know that snow leopards have been here and make us excited at the thought of them; the other is to compare data at home and identify their individuals by their unique markings, on which we can understand how many snow leopards are in this area, and distinguish and record the behavior of each individual.

Doesn't it look easy? In fact, when you really compare the data, it looks like this:

After a heavy snow, we were the first to rush up the mountain, following the fresh footprints, we walked the path of the snow leopard and looked at the mountain it guarded.

Snow leopard footprints, not only observe, but also record the footprint size and other data.

Sometimes, Lady Luck comes-as soon as we climb a small hillside out of breath, we come across the droppings of the snow leopard.

Snow leopard droppings, the bones in the droppings will excite us-this guy has been eating well lately.

On their own turf, snow leopards rub their hind claws back and forth on the ground (as shown in the first picture of this article), which is a way for them to mark their territory. This behavior will form a small dirt bag, commonly known as "plane marks".

After planing, I also post a moments to pee, "Hey, this place, I've been here before."

According to the information provided by the trace, we can plan and deploy the infrared camera more accurately. The infrared camera records the image data, and we can identify them by the markings of each individual.

Volunteers in the wilderness of Xinjiang analyze the movement track of the snow leopard by looking for the traces of the snow leopard, identify the individual snow leopard by the leopard print, synthesize all the information, analyze whether the snow leopard is well, and also analyze whether the alpine ecosystem in our water source is healthy. This kind of work is meaningful and fun.
