The season of shaping and pruning of garden trees

The pruning of garden trees can be carried out at any time, such as sprouting, coring, tillering, pruning and so on. However, sometimes due to reasons such as tree bleeding, it is required to be carried out in the period with the least amount of injury, and most trees are suitable for pruning in early spring and summer.

(1) dormant pruning

The growth of the seedlings in the dormant period is not good, the growth is sometimes suspended, a large part of the nutrition in the tree will return to the roots, the nutrient loss is the least after pruning, and the bacteria are not easy to infect the wound and rot after pruning, which has little effect on the growth of trees. And during the dormant period, most trees lose their leaves, can be pruned more clearly, and can reduce the cleaning work.

In the cold regions of the north, the El injured by winter pruning is easy to suffer frost damage, so pruning in early spring is the most suitable. This work is generally carried out in early or mid-March, when the root activity of trees is not very exuberant, nutrients have not yet been transported up from the roots, and the loss of nutrients can be reduced. it does not affect the germination ability of flower buds and leaf buds. It is also the best time to renew and trim shrubs, including those that show their beautiful trunks next autumn and winter. There are also some trees that have the phenomenon of sap bleeding during pruning in early spring, so it is suitable for pruning before the bleeding period. This kind of trees need intensity pruning, although the temporary ornamental effect is not ideal, but it will get a long-term ornamental effect. If the plant is overcrowded and the branches are dense and thin, it should be well pruned in early spring in the long run.

(2) growing pruning (summer pruning)

Normally, from April to October, the intensity of tree pruning in summer should be slightly lighter than that in early spring. it can cut off tillering branches and grow branches only, mainly to ensure that the plant is in good shape, and heavy pruning should be avoided during this period. especially for those plants with weak growth, autumn is the best time to remove diseased branches, insect branches and dead branches, but if the degree of pruning is too heavy. It will cause them to grow only autumn shoots, and these new branches may suffer frost damage because they do not have enough time to fully develop before winter. Other garden trees are trimmed with different shapes according to different functional requirements.
