Spring and summer is the season of gardenia in full bloom, sending out bursts of fragrance. Gardenia is an important garden ornamental plant with luxuriant leaves and evergreen leaves. What should we pay attention to the breeding skills of gardenia?

Today, I would like to introduce the relevant culture skills of gardenia.

1. Temperature conditions

The suitable temperature for growth and development of Gardenia jasminoides is 23-28 ℃, but the high temperature in summer is disadvantageous. The cold tolerance of adult plants is poor, and the adult plants can withstand the low temperature of-5 ℃ for a short time, and the temperature is below-12 ℃, and the leaves fall off due to freezing injury. Greenhouses are needed to survive the winter in the north.

2. Lighting requirements

The growth of gardenia needs plenty of sunlight, if placed in the semi-shade for a long time, the flower branches are thin and slender. During maintenance, in addition to the need for shade at noon in July and August and hibernation in winter, you can be maintained in the sun at other times.

3. Soil selection

The basin soil should be acidic. Transplanting in the rainy season should bring dirt balls. Gardenia is a typical acidic soil plant, while the north is alkaline soil. For this reason, it is best to water Rain Water stored in summer, or add 0.1% ferrous sulfate to the water to change the water quality and increase the absorption of acidic nutrients by plants. Otherwise, "chlorosis" will occur, the leaves will be yellow, and even the leaves will be scorched and withered, which can be prevented by alum fertilizer and water.

4. Watering skills

Gardenia likes to be moist, keep the basin soil moist during the growth period, and pay attention to increase air humidity. High temperature in summer and dry weather should be watered more; in spring and summer, spray leaf surface with clear water every morning and evening, and sprinkle water to the ground around the basin to increase air humidity; watering should be less in winter, but branches and leaves still need to be sprayed regularly to keep the leaf surface clean.

5. Fertilization of gardenia

Gardenia likes fertilizer, and rotten cake fertilizer is added to the soil as base fertilizer when planting. Cake fertilizer and ferrous sulfate are used to make fertilizer and water in the growing season and irrigated once a week. Fully nutritious organic liquid fertilizer can also be used. Topdressing for 1-2 times at budding stage and watering the aqueous solution of potassium dihydrogen phosphate can make the flowers fat and fragrant. The temperature is above 35 ℃ in summer and 15 ℃ in autumn, and fertilizer application is stopped.

6. Gardenia pruning

Daily attention should be paid to pruning and shaping to form a certain crown shape. Generally, when pruning 2 or 3 times in the growing season, cut off the top tip and promote branches to form a hemispherical crown.
