Shrimp fishing is a favorite leisure activity of many people, which can experience the fun of shrimp fishing and taste delicious fresh shrimp. However, according to a survey of 65 shrimp fishing ponds in 47 shrimp fishing farms in Taiwan, 30% of the shrimp in shrimp farms contain excessive antibiotics, which may affect the human body. In addition, more than 70% of the public safety equipment is unqualified, of which the illegal construction problem is the most serious (see the end of the article).

In 65 shrimp fishing ponds, 14 pieces of antibiotics exceeded the standard, and one exceeded the standard by 15 times.

The Consumer Protection Office of the Executive Yuan today (13) announced the results of shrimp inspection and construction management fire control check in shrimp fishing farms. The Consumer Protection Department, together with local health bureau personnel, conducted spot checks on shrimp hygiene and safety, construction and fire safety in 47 shrimp fishing farms in Taiwan's nine municipalities directly under the Central Government.

In the shrimp testing part, of a total of 65 shrimp fishing ponds in 47 shrimp fishing farms, 14 did not comply with the regulations, with a violation rate of more than 30%. Among them, 9 samples were "tetracycline 7" (the total amount of tetracycline and 4-epimer-oxytetracycline should not exceed the legal standard value 0.1ppm), and 5 cases were found to exceed the legal standard value of "oxolinic acid" (not more than the legal standard value 0.1ppm), highlighting the misuse of antibiotics.

Wang Deming, a consumer protection official, said that the Yuantai fishing Shrimp Farm in Taoyuan had seven tetracycline items 15 times higher than the standard, and even tetracycline, which could not be found, was detected, and illegal construction problems were also involved. "it's really rare!" It is stressed that operators should review whether shrimp fishing ponds are too high in bacteria before they need to use a large amount of antibiotics.

Wang Deming also said that the shrimp fishing farm as a place of entertainment, in which the hidden food safety issues are often overlooked, pointing out that this is the first time that the Consumer Protection Agency has conducted a spot check on the shrimp fishing farm.

Among the results of spot checks on fire safety management, of the 47 shrimp fishing farms, 19 were illegal structures. Wang Deming pointed out that the operators were mainly involved in problems such as substandard fire extinguishers and smoke exhaust equipment, as well as the lack of means of escape.

Why do antibiotics exceed the standard? Tracking down

As for how to trace the use of shrimp medicine, Wang Deming admitted that it is impossible to know whether the shrimp fishing farm administered the drug on its own or from the source farm, only responding to the fact that health units and agricultural administrative units are still under investigation. If it is found that shrimp fishing farmers are illegally using drugs, the Health Bureau may impose a fine of NT $60,000 to NT $200 million in accordance with the Food Safety Law. If there is a problem with the farm, it will be the responsibility of the Fisheries Department of the Council of Agriculture.

Cheng Shu-wen, a researcher at the Fisheries Department, said that the Fisheries Department is responsible for testing the use of drugs in farms, and the supervision and punishment units are the Prevention and Quarantine Bureau and local epidemic prevention authorities (such as prevention and control centers, animal protection offices). Zheng Shuwen pointed out that in addition to upstream farms and downstream shrimp fishing farms, shrimp drug problems may also occur in the course of transportation, but she stressed that the government is still tracing the shrimp in the shrimp fishing farms.

Angler: shrimp fishing is fun, but shrimp consider resale

Miss Zheng in Chiayi loves shrimp fishing and often enjoys Thai shrimp from the shrimp fishing farm. In the face of doubts about antibiotics in the shrimp fishing farm, she confesses that she will eat less afterwards. "she will still go fishing and have fun, but will resell the shrimp." However, she believes that operators should not use antibiotics illegally.
