Last Updated: 2024/09/20, Cuttings can also be cut in summer, but many flower friends complain that cuttings are not successful. What went wrong? Huahua is really in a hurry. Today, let's talk about what we should pay attention to when cutting and how to make it successful.

Choose suitable flower branches for cutting

Cutting is not just cutting a flower branch. As long as we choose the flower branch, the cutting will take root more quickly and the seedlings will be more robust.

1. Choose 1-year-old, strong branches

Take the rose as an example, it is best to intercept the turquoise branches with many buds, not the aged and lignified branches, and not the delicate twigs.

If you look at the speckled ones, you'd better not use them. They may be sick and the cuttings are risky.

2. The length is 8-15 cm, with 2-3 bud spots.

There is no special requirement for the length of cutting branches. Some flowers are relatively small, such as geraniums, sunflowers, etc., which can be cut by 6 centimeters, and the rose triangle plum can grow a little longer, with at least 2 buds.

Cutting substrate and depth

1. Use sandy, breathable soil

It is best to use sand, perlite and cinder soil for cutting. these soils are more moisturizing and breathable, which are beneficial to the respiration of branches.

2. It is best to use transparent plastic cups

For novice cuttings, it is best to use transparent plastic cups to see if there is too much water, rotten and rooting.

Don't move the branches, don't be curious to pull them out and have a look. Cut them with transparent cups, and you can see them when they grow roots.

3. Depth of cuttage

The depth of cutting is 2-5cm, depending on the variety of flowers, do not cut too deep, easy to rot. The lowest bud on the branch should not be inserted into the soil, but should be left on the soil surface.

Maintenance after cuttage

1. Environment and light

The branches after cutting should not be exposed to the sun, they should be placed in a cool place in summer, the morning and evening light can be accepted in spring and autumn, and direct sunlight should be avoided at noon

About 12-15 days, after the root is stable, bask in the sun properly, or put it in a well-lit place at home.

2. Watering

Either wet the soil before cutting, slightly wet it, or water the soil immediately after cutting, and keep the soil moist at ordinary times. Don't pour too much water, or the roots will soak away.

Several minor problems of cutting

1. Fake cuttings

Some branches cuttings soon begin to sprout and grow leaves, do not be happy too early, this is very likely to be a fake work. That is, if all the original nutrients are supplied to the buds, the roots will not work.

How to judge: if the old leaves on the branches wither before budding, it's fine; if the old leaves are still good and the buds grow, nine times out of ten they are fake.

What to do with fake work: don't touch it. If you want to save it, take off the new bud and retain the nutrition to see if it can grow again, or leave it to fate and wait for it to run out of oil.

2. Change the pot after cuttings take root.

In general, after the cuttage takes root, the seedling will grow some leaves continuously, and after it grows 3-5 leaves, it will stop growing. This is a normal phenomenon of rooting. Don't move it. After this process lasts for half a month, we will consider changing the basin.

Pay attention to when changing the basin, be sure to take the soil together, do not get the soil off the root, so that you can not only protect the new root, but also serve the basin as soon as possible after changing the basin.

Pour water thoroughly after changing the basin, put it indoors to avoid direct sunlight, you can come into contact with the sun sooner or later after about 2-3 days, and can be maintained normally after half a month.
