"succulent plants don't like water." this should be a misunderstanding that most novice friends often fall into. In fact, no kind of plant can survive completely without water, but some plants need more water and some plants need less water.

For succulent plants, most of their native places are dry and harsh environment. In order to adapt to this environment, there is a wax protective layer on the surface of their leaves, which can lock up the water in the succulent plants and will not be evaporated too much. In other words, because there is so little water in the growing environment, they actually lock all the water into their bodies, so it would be inappropriate to water succulent plants like ordinary plants.

Another misunderstanding is the watering cycle. Watering once a week and once every half a month is bullshit. In fact, succulent plants do not have a fixed watering cycle, because season, climate, temperature and humidity, flowerpot size, flowerpot material, pot soil, succulent plant varieties, growth stage and so on are all factors that determine the watering of succulent plants.

So how on earth should succulent plants be watered?

1. Dry and watered thoroughly, it is easy to say, but some novice friends may not be able to touch the door when they do it. To put it simply, in spring, summer and autumn, after watering, small flowerpots may dry in 1-3 days, and slightly larger flowerpots will last 3-5 days. However, it should be noted that this is only the soil surface is dry, the underlying basin soil is still wet. If it is watered at this time, it will either rot or grow in vain. So how does a novice judge that the soil is dry? You can insert the bamboo stick into the soil to see the humidity, slowly accumulate experience, and you can judge if you have more experience.

2. In fact, there is a simpler way to judge whether it should be watered or not, which is to touch the leaves. When the leaves of the penultimate layer become soft and wrinkled, you can safely water them without fear of rotting roots or growing.

3. The above two items only allow you to judge when it is time to water. In other words, if you water the meat at this time, the meat will not be abnormal. But if you want to raise that kind of fat and gorgeous "fresh meat", you have to put up with it again. The basin soil is dry and watered for five or six days to simulate a native dry environment for the meat. After that, the succulent plants are not in a hurry to grow, but desperately store nutrients to cope with the next drought. In fact, just like people, if they have no worries about food and clothing, they will want to develop more aspects; and if they are hungry and full, they will desperately accumulate food to deal with the next time they do not have enough to eat. at this time, we will not pay attention to the development of other aspects. This is the so-called "meat abuse", also known as "control", which takes advantage of the "suffering consciousness" of succulent plants.

4. do not water when the weather has been hot and humid or continuous rain, because at this time, the basin soil dries very slowly, and if there is no sunlight, the meat with good roots will grow crazily, and those with weak roots may die directly. It is suggested to form the good habit of watching the weather forecast every day, so as to avoid a continuous cloudy day after watering, which would be a tragedy.

5. If we say that the death of succulent plants in summer is probably due to lack of watering, some friends may not believe it, but this is the case. If the water has been excessively cut off and the basin soil is too dry, the fibrous roots of some fibrous root succulent plants of the genus Euphorbia of crassulaceae will dry to death, and the dried wound will easily rot the whole plant when exposed to water. Therefore, especially in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and several other furnace cities, succulent plants can not be excessively cut off all the time during the summer.

6. Succulent plants that have just come into the pot cannot be watered immediately. My own practice is to water the fluvo-aquic soil on the basin, and water it along the basin wall 2-4 days later, not through it, so that the roots of succulent plants can be induced to expand desperately in order to find water; then they can be watered again in a week, and then they can be watered in the normal way of maintenance.

7. Or dry and thoroughly watered. Personally, I think that in the normal growth process of succulent plants, the watered gap is occasionally interspersed with the "impervious" mentioned above, which is conducive to the sturdy root system of succulent plants. Of course, most of the time should be thoroughly watered, otherwise the basin soil has been wet outside and dry inside, the root system will also die. If the pot soil is hardened or it is difficult to water because the pot is burst, you can use the soaking pot method, that is, dip the flowerpot of the succulent plant into the water and let the water soak up through the drain hole of the pot until the surface of the pot soil is wet.

8. Winter watering is rarely mentioned in previous articles. In the case of closed balconies and heating in the north, the temperature of the balcony can reach 25 ℃ during the day and about 10 ℃ at night, which has just been the best temperature for the growth of succulent plants, so it is normal to supply water in winter in the north, but you must remember to be ventilated; while in the south, if it is a closed balcony, you can keep water, but if it is an open balcony, you need to decide whether the water is cut off according to the actual situation.

9. Unlike plants of tropical rain forest origin, be careful not to spray water on succulent plants often. If you accidentally drop the water into the center of the leaf when watering, you must also remember to blow the water away.

The above are some personal experiences of small exquisite life, which are only provided as a reference and may not be suitable for everyone. The maintenance of succulent plants should be combined with their own actual situation, continue to learn, and explore their own experience.
