The method of cultivating camellias in tile pots, plastic pots or other containers is called container cultivation of camellias. It is widely used because of its convenient management, free observation and appreciation of camellias, and good effect on beautifying the indoor environment. The main points of cultivation are as follows:

1, container size: no matter what kind of flowerpot is used, its volume should make the camellia root system fully developed without extra space, the flowerpot is too large, it is easy to cause poor drainage; the flowerpot is too small to provide sufficient water and nutrients for camellias, it is taboo in flower arrangement containers. Therefore, it is usually required to install large pots in large seedlings and small pots in small ones. Camellias can generally be planted in flowerpots for 3 years, and then replaced or transplanted.

2. Basin soil conditions: the basin soil must be loose and aerated, which can provide appropriate water, nutrients and pH conditions, as well as certain retention. In most cases, the natural soil is either too sticky or too sandy, so it is generally not suitable to be directly used as a container cultivation medium for camellias. The red and yellow soil in the south should add 30% of the river sand or 50% humus soil, and mix evenly before it can be used as a basin soil. Mountain humus soil or grass carbon soil is a good basin soil material, natural topsoil mixed with a certain amount of organic fertilizer compost is a very good basin soil.

3. Camellias on the pot: when the camellias enter the semi-dormant period, it is the best season to plant the camellias. In November in winter and early spring from February to March, the pot should be stopped before and after the budding period. When the camellias are on the pot, the tiles should be staggered at the bottom of the pot, and then a layer of pebbles should be added to facilitate drainage. Then the pot soil should be added to plant the camellias in the pot. The root system should be extended. The basin soil should be in close contact with the root system. The basin soil should not be added too much. The planting depth of camellias is limited to the rhizome, which is not conducive to the growth of camellias.

4. Watering and fertilization: always keep the basin soil moist, long-term nutrient supply, camellias grow healthily, there is no doubt that alkaline hard water must be adjusted its PH value before use, each watering should be thoroughly, but the basin must not accumulate water, at the same time as far as possible to keep the water temperature consistent with the soil temperature, the soil is too dry, branches and leaves wilt, so we should often look at the water situation of the basin soil, after the new root of the plant is formed. Fertilization is based on the principle of a small amount of time. Slow-acting organic fertilizers such as cake fertilizer and sulfur-coated fertilizer are good fertilizers. Attention should also be paid to the combined use of N, P, K fertilizers and various trace elements in different growth stages.

5. Change the pot of camellias: when the root system of the camellia plant is full of containers and the plant begins to show growth inhibition, the larger container should be replaced in time, the plant should be gently removed from the basin, the 5 roots should be cut off from the four sides and the bottom, and the root ball should be tapped gently to expose the fibrous root, replace the new basin and add new soil to plant. As the camellia plant grows up year by year, the size of the basin used for each change should be gradually larger than that of the old basin. Under normal circumstances, the basin should be changed every 2-3 years.
