There are about 20 known species of large freshwater fish in the world, and the more famous ones are Mekong giant catfish, stingray, white Sturgeon, giant bone hyoid, bream and so on. These are all big men in rivers or lakes, most of which weigh more than 100 kilograms. Among these fish, the bream is the largest.

The bream belongs to the Sturgeon family, which is mainly produced in the waters of Heilongjiang Province. it is a kind of fish with large body, long life span, large food intake and great strength, up to 2000 jin. It is a large carnivorous fish, known as the king of freshwater fish. The mackerel is one of the paleontological groups preserved in the Cretaceous period, and its shape has hardly changed for more than 100 million years, so it is known as the "living fossil".

The growth rate of mackerel is fast. According to relevant literature records, the largest mackerel is 5.6m long and weighs more than 1000 jin. Mackerel mature late, with males over 12 years old and females over 16 years old, generally carrying 400000 to 4 million eggs, so they are killed in large numbers because their eggs are the best caviar on the market in the world.

In the 19th century, there were many mackerel in Heilongjiang, but since the 20th century, mackerel has been caught in large quantities. These large fish have almost nowhere to hide. Coupled with the late sexual maturity and low survival of young fish, they have become extremely endangered species by 1998.

China began to adopt artificial breeding in the late 1950s, and there are release stations in many places in Heilongjiang. After five or six years of breeding, it is usually more than 80 or 100 jin, and the price is much cheaper than the wild ones, but there are still many people who prefer the wild ones. This has also led to the killing of mackerel.

Although raw mackerel is an endangered species, it has not been listed as a national protected animal in China, so it is nothing new for fishermen to kill them. In 2009, a fisherman caught a 3.5-meter-long, 830-jin wild mackerel. Many locals said they hadn't seen such a big fish in four or five years, and the fish was finally bought by the owner of a restaurant for 70,000 yuan.

In 2014, four fishermen caught a 2.5-meter-long and 537-jin mackerel, but fortunately, a woman bought it from a fisherman for more than 60, 000 yuan and put it back into the river. In 2015, three people caught a 2-meter-long and 700-jin mackerel, which was bought by a merchant for 95000 yuan.

Once the net goes down, no matter the big one or the small one, as long as they are fish, they will be fished away. This kind of fishing is very common in China. Wild mackerel grow to 2000 jin, let alone grow to 2000 jin. At this rate, more than ten jin of wild mackerel are rare in the future.
