The Fotou jade plant is leafless, with fleshy stems, and the fleshy stems are globular when young, and then gradually show a cylindrical shape, tender texture, gray-green epidermis, dense triangular or hemispherical, conical verrucous processes, similar to the spiral hair of the head of the Buddha statue, hence the name "Fotou Jade". Peanut in the middle of the verrucous process in the upper part of the plant, the Corolla is spreading in the shape of a shallow dish, five-lobed, yellowish to yellowish green, with dark purple spots, flowering from June to August, especially in June.

Growth habits:

Fotou jade should be in a warm, dry and sunny environment, requiring good ventilation, slightly resistant to semi-shade, drought resistance and avoid excessive moisture in the soil. It is not cold-resistant and afraid of extreme heat. It grows well in warm winters and cool summers. The plant is dormant or semi-dormant in high temperature in summer. although the fleshy stem no longer grows, there are flowers blooming one after another, which can be moved to bright light and no direct sunlight, and can be watered a little, but should not be excessive to strengthen ventilation to prevent plant decay caused by muggy heat and humidity.

The plant is also dormant when it is cold in winter, which requires sufficient sunlight, strict control of watering, and the temperature should not be lower than 10 ℃. The growing period of the plant is from March to May and from September to November, give sufficient and stable light, and often turn the flowerpot, so that each part of the plant can get uniform sunlight to prevent the fleshy stem from growing askew; if the light is strong and weak, it will make the plant uneven and affect the ornamental.

Watering to achieve "dry and thorough", pay attention to prevent rain, once a month apply mature thin liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer. Change the basin once a year in spring or autumn, the basin soil is required to be loose and fertile, contain the right amount of calcareous, and have good drainage. It can be prepared with 3 parts of rotten leaf soil, 1 part of garden soil, 3 parts of coarse sand or vermiculite and a small amount of bone powder.

The reproduction of Fotou jade can cut off the side young plants for cutting. if there are no young plants, the upper part of the plant can be cut off, dry for 5-7 days, cut in coarse sand or vermiculite, and the lower part is still left in the original soil. before long, many small plants will sprout, and after they grow a little bigger, they will be removed for cutting. The grouped plants can also be divided in combination with changing pots. If the seeds can be collected, they can also be propagated by sowing.
