I. the purpose of turning the basin

The main purpose of turning the basin is to change the soil and bowl, and to mention the most ornamental value of the basin.

1. Renew the basin soil. Potted soil is the material basis for the survival of bonsai plants. After the potted flowers and trees were nurtured for 1 year to 2 years, the root system covered the whole basin, and a large number of new fibrous roots grew along the basin wall, forming a reticular pocket around the basin, some of which could not be absorbed by buds, and some did not absorb enough nutrition. at the same time, soil fertility is exhausted, soil consolidation, water conservation, fertilizer conservation, drainage, air permeability is declining day by day, if you do not turn the pot in time, it is bound to seriously affect the normal growth of plants. There are some formed bonsai trees, turn the basin just to change part of the pot soil, still use the original basin. The replacement of new soil should meet the nutritional needs of this kind of trees.

2. Change the bowl. As potted plants grow up, the proportion of pots and plants is out of balance. Larger bowls need to be replaced and some new soil added. For some small flower and fruit trees, after processing and modeling, the purpose of cultivation is to let them grow up and take shape as soon as possible. At the beginning, they did not pay attention to pots, and some only used ordinary earthen pots or terrazzo pots. After several years of cultivation, the saplings have grown up, the flat lids have been removed, and the trees have taken shape, so they have to be replaced with bonsai pots for viewing, so this kind of basin change is particularly important. The newly replaced pot should take into account both ornamental and plant growth, the pot should not be too deep, and pay attention to the coordination of pot color and flower and fruit color. Generally speaking, the width of the crown should be greater than the length of the pot, otherwise, the big tree is small and unattractive.

(1) Pines planted in deep pots (2) are more beautiful in shallow pots.

3. Improve the ornamental value. According to the needs of modeling, either change the deep basin into a shallow basin, or change the position or posture of the trees, and carry out the necessary processing to make the bonsai more beautiful and more ornamental. Some potted flowers and trees suffer from diseases and insect pests, which are difficult to cure and get rid of with medicine, and they also need to turn the pot.

Second, the number of years of turning the basin

The number of years of turning pots should be flexibly mastered according to the age and species of trees. In general, young trees grow fast and need to be turned once a year and replaced with a larger basin, the longest is no more than two years, and the bonsai of formed trees can be turned once every two years. Old trees can turn pots once every three years. Flower and fruit trees had better turn the basin once a year to add some soil with more phosphate fertilizer; deciduous miscellaneous trees can turn the basin once every two years; pine and cypress trees grow slowly and turn the basin once every three years.

Third, the time to turn the basin

1. In general, it is better to turn the pot before the flowers and trees germinate in spring. However, China has a vast territory and great differences in climate, so we should adjust measures to local conditions and grasp them flexibly.

2. The turning time of some flowers and trees should be determined according to their characteristics, such as the turning time of Phyllostachys pubescens in May or September. Plum blossoms should be carried out at the same time when the flowers fall behind and the branches are pruned at the same time.

3. If turning the basin is just a small basin for a big basin, without breaking the earth, it can be carried out all the year round.

Fourth, the method of turning the basin

1. Knock the basin. If it is to turn over the flowers and trees planted in a deep basin, you can put the basin on the soil and turn it around while hitting the basin body below the basin mouth with your fist to separate the basin soil from the basin wall and knock the basin soil out. If it is a shallow basin, you can first remove the soil near the edge of the basin, then buckle the basin upside down or put it on the side, hold the tree in one hand, and push out the basin soil from the drainage hole at the bottom of the basin with the index or middle finger in the other. As shown in the following picture.

Knock on the basin

(1) put the basin upside down with the boxing basin wall (2)-hold the tree by hand, hold the bottom of the basin in one hand and push out the soil with your fingers.

2. Go to the old land. When turning the basin, whether it is changing the larger basin or still using the original basin, part of the old soil should be removed. If it is a small basin for a large basin, the old soil can be removed less; if the original basin is still used, the old soil should be removed more, but at most it should not exceed 1 / 2 of the original basin soil. If the old soil is removed too much, the light ones will prolong the rejuvenation time, and the heavy ones will cause poor plant growth. While removing the old soil, we should carry out an inspection of the root system, cut off the withered root, diseased root and overdense root, and cut it too long to eradicate the old soil, use bamboo slices, bamboo sticks or wooden sticks to avoid damage to the roots. The figure below is as follows

3. Planting. According to the requirements of modeling, trees should be planted in the appropriate position in the basin. If making bonsai with root-lifting trees, the bottom soil in the basin should be put more to make the roots expose the mouth of the pot. Bamboo turning can be carried out at the same time as ramets.

4. Fill the soil. Under normal circumstances, fill the soil should be placed while the basin, if the bowl is too large or shallow basin is not convenient to wash the basin, should put the soil while gently pressing, so that the basin soil loose moderate. If the pot soil is too loose, the plants are easy to skew after watering.

5. Watering. After the basin soil is filled, it is usually watered immediately. Because the basin has just been changed, the basin soil is more loose, and sometimes the basin soil will be sunken in the watering process, so it should be filled in time, but do not press or stir the basin soil with your hands. Otherwise, the basin soil is easy to harden when it dries. After watering thoroughly, put the bonsai in the shade for about 10 days, and then in the semi-shade for 3 days? 5 days. It can be planted in the sun.
