First of all, I would like to make it clear that I am not writing this post to teach people how to introduce orchids. I know whether it is that spring onion or not. I write about the experiences and lessons that I and the orchid friends around me have bought with tuition fees. I hope I can give some help to the friends of New Orchid.

First, raise orchids in the local region

Orchids have regions, Jiangsu and Zhejiang raise Chunhui, Sichuan people raise spring swords, and Yungui raise lotus petals, which roughly have a region. If any orchid crosses the region, it is inevitable that it will not adapt to the local environment, and it is more difficult for the new orchid friends to cope with this situation. Even people like me who have raised orchids seriously for eight years are still unable to deal with them properly. For example, the alpine cold orchid I introduced in Yunnan has been growing new seedlings and pouring old grass every year for five years. By last year, the old grass had only fallen by half. Now there are at least one and a half seedlings. I'm afraid my daughter will be married when it blossoms. On the other hand, the person who introduced it to me has already had two big pots and flowers, but everyone has been planted from the same seedling, so I have no temper at all. The same is true in the case of a tree giving away spring. For example, Da Xue Su can be said to be the first flower in Yunnan, and its petals are somewhat like a diamond in Yunnan, but if they are not specially treated in Shanghai, they are bamboo leaves, so it is completely difficult to appreciate the elegant demeanour of this flower. In addition, there is another point, after all, there are relatively few people who raise orchids across regions, and once something goes wrong, there are fewer people around to communicate. In addition, there is another form of non-native grass. I mean resale grass, because it has not been introduced for a long time. I do not know the situation of resale grass in recent years. Resale grass mainly refers to the traditional old varieties of grass sold back from Japan and South Korea (maybe Taiwan, but I do not know the situation in Taiwan, please know Lanyou to add). There is no problem with these grasses in terms of varieties. After planting for a few years, there is no difference between native grass and native grass. because these grasses are cultivated in the greenhouse with high temperature, high humidity and high fertilizer, the price is also relatively cheap, but ordinary orchid friends are faced with a process of adaptation after introduction. In the first two years, it is often very difficult to pour a large amount of grass and plant it to die without paying attention, which will be a great psychological blow to the new orchid friends. Therefore, in the first few years of raising orchids, it is suggested that local orchids should be raised mainly. As for those orchid friends in non-orchid areas, frankly, I have no experience either, but I think we should also introduce locally grown second-or third-generation grasses, and flowers in good condition are more suitable.

Please don't rush to introduce new species before you have some basic experience.

It is the wish of many orchid farmers to have a new species, especially one that can be named by themselves. But for the new orchid friends, this often means great risk. It is rare to hear that Lanyou has been duped by introducing old varieties or new and old varieties, and most of them are bought new flowers on the stalls. The eyesight of looking at varieties cannot be practiced one day. Although the orchid book has written a lot of experience in distinguishing fine flowers by grass, old orchid friends actually understand in their hearts that what they write is often useless in practice. Rely on that according to the clue to find, buy back mostly toads. In addition, the means of orchid fraud emerge one after another, and some people's "craftsmanship" is really authentic, so it is better not to believe in their own eyesight. Lay a good foundation and have at least identification experience before you think about it. Of course, it is inevitable that the old mage bought eye-catching goods. At the same time, we should also accumulate some planting and breeding experience, at least not often after death to consider, to know that it is not easy for God to create a fine product, and it has been a sin since then.

Third, the accumulation of identification and planting experience should be obtained from the old-age varieties.

In fact, I have already said it in the last paragraph of "talking about Science and Technology Grass again", but it does not seem to have attracted any attention. It was about 2002, when I just raised orchids and thought about picking up leaks on the stalls. As a result, I paid a lot of tuition, but I didn't buy anything. When I happened to meet Mr. Dai Xianqin, I chased him and asked him what he thought of the grass. I also took the dogmas in the book and asked him to explain it to me. Later, when Mr. Dai was forced by me, he said, "go and plant the old breed of Chunlan for 10 years and know everything." This is a great drink for me. From then on, I began to raise old varieties with representative petals, such as Song Mei and Jiyuan, and carefully observed the whole process from new buds not unearthed to growing into grass. Sometimes I did some male and female species. Fat species, lean species and other different comparative experiments, every time I watered and fertilized, I made a record and so on. After a few years of planting, I unwittingly had some feelings in my heart. An empty grass in the hand, is a thick flower is a fine flower basically has a general feeling, as for what petal shape, some can also be said to one or two. However, this is limited to Chunlan, for Huilan still can not see. As for science and technology grass, I saw it in large quantities for the first time during the Spring Festival this year, mixed with traditional grass, and I can't give any specific reason, that is, it doesn't feel right, and the more I see it, the more wrong it is, especially the grass. It can be distinguished almost immediately in a large pile. I think this feeling can only be achieved through constant observation every day, and there are no shortcuts. Maybe you have to be honest for ten years, as Mr. Dai said, before you have an epiphany.

As for the experience of planting and breeding, I think it is also more valuable from planting old-age varieties. I don't know what other people's experience is. Anyway, my feeling is that fine flowers are much more difficult to raise than row flowers. I think it is because the line flower is the normal in the orchid, while the fine flower is abnormal, so the line flower has stronger adaptability and vitality. Therefore, the experience of planting and growing flowers is often of little use to the cultivation of fine flowers. In addition, vegetarian heart seems to be more difficult to raise than Song Mei and so on. My vegetarian heart leaves are always prone to black spots, which may be due to my inadaptability to my environment. I also hope that Lan you who has experience in this can talk about it.

IV. Extensive experience in planting and breeding, mainly from me

It is not easy to grow orchids, so some orchids like to inquire around, hear about other people's effective experience, and do it as soon as they come back. as a result, they end up learning to walk in Handan and have not formed their own patterns of planting and cultivation. As a matter of fact, everyone's planting and breeding environment is different, different floors, different orientations, different climates, different water quality, different plant materials, and different surrounding environments, so the experience of others is only a reference. The key is to have your own orchid cultivation. I sacrificed a few pots of orchids for years. For those pots of flowers, I used different plant materials, put them in different positions, used different watering methods and applied different fertilizers, and almost every month I poured them out to see the growth of the roots, so I gradually accumulated my own planting and breeding experience. and I'm still doing this work, just because I don't have enough time, so I'm not careful before. But to tell you the truth, God is very hard on those of us who raise orchids in Shanghai. I am so careful that all I can do is not to die. To be exuberant, I'm afraid I'll have to wait until I retire and have time to think about it. When I went to the office of the local development zone in Shengzhou, Zhejiang Province, I was filled with emotion when I saw the spirit of Song Meidu, which they had casually planted.

Fifth, increase the variety, give priority to exchange, and enough is enough.

The introduction of varieties is still quite expensive, everyone is hard money, a large amount of money to buy flowers is irresponsible to the family. Therefore, the best way to increase varieties is to exchange orchids with orchids with orchid friends and increase varieties with each other. This requires some varieties that others are willing to exchange with you after the first or previous introduction. You must at least have a capital that can be exchanged in the future so that you can spend less in the future. So, if you introduce a variety that will be overwhelming in the future, you should know what I mean. I'm afraid it's a little difficult to exchange.

The varieties of orchids are endless to be introduced. When I first raised orchids, I was determined to collect all the varieties in the whole old orchid spectrum, and to produce the most complete orchid spectrum and cultivation collection after retirement. Now this idea has long been given up, in fact, it is impossible to use personal ability. In my opinion, it is enough to have several representative works for different petal shapes. It's really out of control if it's too much.

These are some of my experiences, some of which I think are experience, which may be proved by myself as a lesson in the future, it is hard to say. I hope that more orchid friends can also talk about their own experiences and lessons without reservation, do not be conservative, do not hold the mentality of looking at their wives with their mother-in-law, which is not good for the whole orchid world. Please correct what is wrong, and I will fish for fame again.

Orchids, you are a good teacher on the way to raise orchids.
