Last Updated: 2024/11/05, The weather is getting hotter and hotter, the orchids at home seem to be unbearable, the leaf tips are yellow, the leaves are black, and the roots are rotten! It turns out that summer is the period of high incidence of orchid disease, 2 problems have to be on guard!

I. Early withdrawal of grass

In order to promote the germination and growth of new leaves, the tips and edges of old leaves will gradually turn yellow and wither from top to bottom, thus saving nutrients. This is the normal phenomenon of grass withdrawal.

However, if the new leaves are also turning yellow, scorched, or even deformed and discolored, it means that the orchid leaves have retired ahead of time.

What about early withdrawal?

Early regression will lead to sparse and black leaves, slow or even stop plant development, at this time to check the root system status.

1. The root system is slightly damaged

If the root system is not damaged and the outer leaves are withered, it is good to cut them off in time, then control the water and fertilizer, do not irrigate them, dry and irrigate them thoroughly; apply thin liquid fertilizer every 15 ~20 days in summer.

2. The root system is seriously damaged

If the orchid root system is seriously damaged, the whole plant may retreat, and then the pot must be changed for soil. After taking off the pot, cut off the rotten root part first, then soak the whole root in carbendazim solution for disinfection, and then put the plant material on the pot again, paying attention to exposing the reed head.

II. Stem rot infection

Found that the orchid leaves gradually turn black from bottom to top, the leaves grow black spots, dig open the roots and even see all black from the root neck to the reed head, that should be alert, it is likely to be infected with stem rot!

How to prevent stem rot?

The high incidence period of stem rot is from June to September, which is characterized by high temperature, frequent watering and many pests. Orchids are easy to be infected with germs.

Prevention first, prevention more than cure

1, can be in the summer high temperature period every 7~10 days, diluted 500~1000 times carbendazim, chlorothalonil or thiophanate-methyl and other antibacterial agents around the plant and foliage spray sterilization.

2, timely treatment of wounds, especially after the strain, to immediately apply wound healing agents to prevent infection;

3, can be buried in the plant material some furan Dan pesticide, to avoid insect infection reed head.

How is it treated?

1. Once found, immediately cut off and burn the infected orchid plants and leaves;

2. Pull out the whole pot of orchids, wash them, remove the diseased plants and rotten reed heads, and then put the remaining orchids in a slightly more concentrated solution of difenoconazole for 1 whole day.

3. After drying, change the soil and put it on the basin again. Do not water, put in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance for three days, soak the orchid pot with 500 - 1000 times of disinfectant every month, you can gradually restore health.

Note: Huahua reminds everyone that orchids must be turned over and ventilated frequently in high temperature weather to ensure normal breathing at the roots. If you are too troublesome, you can blow them with a fan after watering.

Well, that's all for orchid fever,
