Green picture book to cultivate children's environmental and climatic literacy

The cultivation of environmental and climate literacy can not be achieved overnight, we need to start with daily life and early childhood education, which is the core task of the Green Picture Group. In 2017, the training of green picture book promotion volunteers is more rigorous than before, and the requirements and challenges for the trainees are also higher. During the 9-month course, in addition to the basic green drawing course, we should also acquire the current situation and professional knowledge related to the green drawing topic and learn to use the green picture book teaching plan related to low-carbon life: "Grandpa must have a way" to prolong the use of objects as long as possible and create new value of old things. Get rid of the dependence on pesticides, fertilizers and artificial additives, re-establish the "grandfather's organic bread" of the intimate relationship between people and food, recognize the harm of plastic waste to the marine ecology, and thus change the "bird doctor by the sea" of disposable products. And to understand the impact of animal husbandry on the ecology caused by global warming, and then choose low-carbon diets such as less meat and more vegetables, eating local seasons, less processing, friendly production, and so on.

During the training, we also took the trainees outdoors to carry out the clean beach service at Wanghai Lane in Keelung, in line with the International Beach Clean Initiative (ICC) for statistical records. Also through different teams to create experience activities to enhance mutual understanding, communication, friendship, trust and team cohesion. Of course, internship and participation in group work meetings are also indispensable, and in the end, we have to work together to produce a teaching plan design that "you can celebrate the festival without money." After participating in the training, the trainees realized: "Green volunteers should not only be able to tell stories, but also be able to design and conduct activities, but also to understand multiple issues such as the environment, food, energy conservation and carbon reduction." Especially in the trial to see the child's attentive eyes, for the extension of the issue of acceptance and commitment, but also feel that the promotion of green painting is a very important and worthwhile thing to do.

Clear beach, transform plastic reduction from issue cognition to green action

The green picture book emphasizes the experience of learning and green action, so after the course "those things that the Sea teaches me" by Chen Renping, founder of Hai Chung Studio, we took the students into the real Keelung seaside. Jingtan is not only a course, but also a practice of green action. When the trainee leads the green picture book of "the Bird Doctor by the Sea", what moves the child is not only the fun of the story and game, but also the heart that reduces the shape and loves the sea.

Inherit green picture books and let low carbon become life

By the end of 2017, students have also become partners of the Green Picture Group and launched the Green Picture Book Story Train for low-carbon Life, watching the new partners begin to seriously discuss and review existing lesson plans from their little knowledge of Green Picture Books to the serious discussion and review of existing lesson plans after actual combat; from awareness and understanding of environmental problems, to taking their families and influencing students to start a "low-carbon life", all kinds of changes have made Green Picture Books one of the hopes of reversing the climate crisis.

Since the beginning of this year, the green picture book has come to Hsinchu. In the course, in addition to the teacher Zhang Shuqiong of the parent-child world, Lin Yuli, the convener of the Green picture book group of the Housewives' Union, Mr. Zhang Youran, a local picture book writer, and Mr. Hong Zhenyu, a freelance writer and storyteller, the students were led into the picture book world to cultivate the ability to write lesson plans. In addition, Professor Jiang Shuli, director of the Housewives Union Environmental Protection Foundation, Professor Dong Shicheng of ZTE University Management Institute and Mr. Peng Qiming, a climate expert, introduced unadded real food and low-carbon diet to understand climate change and contribute to the environment.
