Pine chrysanthemum is an interesting plant genus with daisy-like flowers and needle-like leaves. There are more than 150 species of this genus from southern Africa. Most of them are easy to plant and bloom. The botanical name Lampranthus comes from the Greek "Lampros" (bright) and anthos (flower).

Leaves: sturdy leaves grow in pairs and can be cylindrical or subtriangular. They are short and usually turquoise.

Flowers: daisy petals can only be opened in the sun. Different species have different colors: yellow, orange, pink and red. Flowers form near the stem tip. Some varieties have a long time to bloom, while others have only a few weeks of flowering.

Cold tolerance

It is not resistant to heat and should not be too humid during the growing period. Better light is needed except for hot days. Spring and autumn are the main growing periods of pine chrysanthemum. Pine chrysanthemum is a very typical sunny plant, which blossoms only when it is fully bathed in the sun in the midsummer.

Light

All varieties of pine chrysanthemum grow and bloom in plenty of sunlight.

The size of a mature plant

The sizes of different species vary, but most conventionally grown pine chrysanthemum varieties are still 60 cm tall or lower and have transmission habits.

Flowering time

There are sporadic repeated blossoms throughout the season, however, the whole summer is the concentrated season of flowering.
