Orchids have an elegant image, from leaves, buds, flowers to plants, have a high appreciation value. Therefore, the main link of orchid cultivation is to master the law of its growth and development, from budding, long leaves, growth, flowering, dormancy and so on, and to observe carefully at each stage.

Generally, in early March, when the temperature is 13-17 ℃, the orchid blossoms; in late May, the temperature is about 23 ℃, and the new buds begin to grow until August; after late August, when the temperature is about 32C, the flower buds are unearthed and grow until November, when the temperature is about 18 ℃. From late November to February of the following year, the flower bud is relatively dormant and no longer grows until it blossoms in March. Therefore, the following stages, flower friends need to observe carefully.

The main results are as follows: 1. the flower bud growth period is from August to March of the following year, with more than two months of dormancy in the middle, and the main growth period is in spring.

2. The growth of leaf buds and new pseudobulbs is mainly in summer, a few in autumn, and dormant in winter. The flower bud of Cymbidium was slightly later than that of Chunlan, and the flower bud began to grow in late March and was in full bloom in mid-late April. From the beginning of July to the end of September, the flower bud differentiation occurred in early March, unlike Chunlan from September to October, there was no relative dormancy period after the flower bud was unearthed, and the dormancy period was from winter to the Beginning of Spring.

3. In general, orchids grow 1-2 weeks later than those in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, or more. For example, orchids are cultivated in greenhouse, even earlier than the growing season in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River because of the high temperature.

4. The new buds and leaves of Jianlan, Mulan and Hanlan all grow in spring and summer. After the flower buds are unearthed, there is no relative dormancy period. Epiphytic orchids bloom in winter and spring, and yellow cicadas bloom in autumn and winter, but their vegetative growth, that is, the growth of new buds and new leaves, is from the end of spring to summer, and generally has a short dormancy after flowering.

Mastering the basic law of the growth and development of orchids at these stages is helpful for flower friends to control the water and fertilizer management of orchids during dormancy.

In general, the fertilizers used in orchids can be divided into two kinds: base fertilizer and liquid fertilizer. Base fertilizer is mixed in the soil with a small amount of fermented pig and sheep manure, broken bean cake, hoof bone fragments and so on. In fact, raising orchids, base fertilizer is rarely used, generally more liquid fertilizer, also known as water and fertilizer.

Liquid fertilizer suggests using special organic nutrient solution for orchids, using sugarcane residue after full fermentation, taking its juice and diluting it with water 500 times. When the length of leaf buds reaches 4-5 cm, it should be applied when the pot soil is slightly dry, once every half a month. Fertilizer should be stopped in the plum rain season and can be applied once every 10 days from July to September.

Orchid fertilization, mainly light liquid fertilizer, "should be diligent and light, and avoid sudden and thick". The application times can be more or less, but the quantity should be light, and a spray can with uniform effluent should be used to apply the rhizosphere to prevent pollution of the leaf surface. Fertilization time is best in the peak growth period, generally in early May, every 2-3 weeks, that is, the application of light fertilizer, until the end of September, the effect is good.

Spring orchid can be thicker, autumn orchid should be lighter, in the winter dormancy period before flowering, dog days and December to February of the following year, it is not suitable to apply fertilizer. In early September, spring orchid applied light fertilizer once, and autumn orchid applied thick fertilizer once in late September.
