Banana prices remain in the doldrums, and the Council of Agriculture has launched a second-stage measure, which is expected to handle 10, 1060 metric tons of bananas to stabilize prices. Chen Jizhong, vice chairman of the Council of Agriculture, even called out at a press conference today (4) that the auction price should rise to more than 15 yuan per kilogram next week.

The Council of Agriculture is expected to handle 10,000 metric tons of bananas to stabilize prices.

Chen Jizhong said that the planting area of bananas has decreased slightly this year, but due to the low moisture content of bananas and the substitution effect of other summer fruits, it is not easy to boost consumption, so there is a problem of unsalable sales. The Council of Agriculture has also put forward various measures since April. Last week, a press conference was held to announce four major measures, including strengthening marketing through Datong road dealers, schools, and national group meals, as well as procurement, processing, guidance and export, and so on. It is estimated that 5460 metric tons will be handled.

"but it's obviously not strong enough." Chen Zhizhi said that yesterday morning, the average price in the Taipei fruit and vegetable auction market was nearly 12 yuan, but after deducting the intermediate costs of green bananas from the producing area, such as ripening, carton, transportation, and so on, it is about 6 yuan per kilogram, which is equal to only about 6 yuan per kilogram, which is already below the cost of 6.4 yuan per kilogram. "judging from the trend of banana prices over the past five years, prices are indeed on the low side this year." prices are now at their lowest point. Prices can be stabilized through specific measures expected to deal with 10,000 metric tons of bananas.

Taiwan Agricultural Development Export 120 metric tons, special products to eliminate 5,000 metric tons

The Council of Agriculture launched the second phase of measures. In terms of intensive processing, Yimei Food came forward to buy 100 metric tons of bananas. In terms of strengthening export, it is expected to be able to handle 500 metric tons of bananas, which will be exported from Taiwan Agricultural Development to the Middle East, 12 metric tons per week for 10 consecutive weeks, with an estimated foreign sales volume of 120 tons, with a purchase price of no less than 12 yuan per kilogram. Guangsong Company exports 50 tons to China every week.

As for the extra bananas, which are better than the market situation, the green bananas are expected to be 5000 metric tons. Su Mao-hsiang, deputy director of Agriculture and Food, explained that the land price of secondary bananas is about NT $1, and the Council of Agriculture buys them at NT $3 per kilogram. These bananas purchased by the Council of Agriculture are usually collected directly to feed pigs, or taken back by farmers to feed pigs or used as fertilizer.

But how to ensure that the special products purchased by the government will no longer enter the market? Su said that all the extra banana products purchased must be cut off, damage the surface of the banana to avoid entering the market, and will take photos to keep the certificate.

Yimei acquires 200 metric tons, with 10.5 yuan per kilogram of origin.

Yimei Foods announced last Friday that it is willing to buy 100 metric tons of Grade A Taiwan bananas (maturity level 5 or 6) at 16.5 yuan per kilogram, but must send them to the designated Taoyuan City freezer. Gao Zhiming, general manager of Yimei Food Company, further said at a press conference today that he would buy an additional 100 metric tons of bananas from farmers, which is equivalent to an estimated purchase of 200 metric tons, and that the maturity of acquired bananas could reach level 4. The acquired bananas will also be made into high value-added products, such as the development of banana ice cream, banana chips and black soy milk.

According to Yimei banana maturity color card can be divided into seven grades, the higher the stage, the higher the maturity, the more the relative ripening cost. Gao explained that the purchase price of 16.5 yuan per kilogram is based on the consideration that farmers can get a certain benefit, with 16.5 yuan deducting six yuan for ripening, cartons, freight, and so on, and farmers from producing areas can get 10.5 yuan.

How many bananas are you buying at present? Gao said that it was just announced last Friday that people have come to negotiate one after another, and this week they will begin to buy bananas, mainly through county and city agricultural bureaus and farmers' groups, but individual farmers can also deliver them directly to Yimei.

However, Gao also admitted that freezing of acquired bananas is a great challenge, and it is very difficult to find so many cold storage at this stage. In addition, these acquired bananas must be frozen for several months. "the freezing cost is difficult." A banana pallet can hold 600 to 800 kilograms of bananas. It costs 250 yuan to enter and leave a pallet in the freezer, and 25 yuan a day for cold storage. "it's a very high burden."

Qishan Fruit and vegetable Transportation and Marketing Cooperative: bananas can be sold in China during the unsalable period

In the face of repeated price drops in bananas, the Council of Agriculture also continues to estimate the production date and yield of seedlings, hoping to achieve front-end seedling control, but the final decision is still in the hands of farmers. Guo Taicheng, manager of the Qishan Fruit and vegetable Transportation and Marketing Cooperative, points out that although the Council of Agriculture has done seed and seedling control, it can only persuade farmers, and what they are afraid of is that farmers keep side buds to continue to grow. "it can only be up to the farmers to choose, but some farmers are blind. If they see a good price, they will have a variety of things. I think there's a chance."

Guo Taicheng took over the banana business at home. In addition to growing his own bananas, he also bought bananas from farmers and exported them to Japan and China. At present, he buys green bananas from farmers at 12 yuan per kilogram, and exports 70 metric tons of bananas a week, accounting for half of Japan and half of China.

"since my father's generation, he has been engaged in export for more than 20 years." Guo stressed that when bananas are abundant, "export is the first choice, not for enterprises to subscribe or anything." Only by pushing Taiwan's agricultural products abroad can we really solve the problem of farmers. "We have always insisted that no matter how difficult it is, we still have to export things."

The price of Taiwan bananas is higher than that of the international market, so it mainly goes to the Japanese market. Kuo points out, "China has a good impression of Taiwan bananas, but the price is relatively high." If Taiwan bananas are rich and unsalable, they should be sold to China. If Taiwan prices come down, they will be competitive in the Chinese market, and Taiwan will have a short voyage from China. "you can get there today and tomorrow." China is in great demand, with a target of 500 metric tons for export. "A Thursday or 50 tons can reach 500 tons in three months."
