Cutting Seedling technique of Rhododendron

Cutting is an important method for asexual reproduction of ornamental plants, which has the advantages of simple technology, easily available materials and good characters of female parents. Rhododendron is a wild germplasm resource with great development potential in the genus Rhododendron and is endemic to China. It is mainly distributed in Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou and Xizang. Rhododendron has great ornamental value, with large flowers, many flowers, fragrance and long flowering period. The flowers are white, pink or rose; the leaves are bright and beautiful, the new leaves are tender red; the Corolla is very drought resistant, and the Corolla is edible. At present, the research on rhododendron is mainly focused on drought resistance physiology, seed propagation, cutting, tissue culture and ecological investigation, but there are few reports on cutting propagation, and the cutting propagation technology is not mature. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a method of cutting propagation of rhododendron [Jishan Huayao].

1) selection of cutting substrate.

Peat moss was used as cutting substrate, and 25min was sterilized at 95 ℃ before use.

2) seedbed preparation

The seedling bed is arranged in the plastic greenhouse, then the shading net is arranged in the plastic greenhouse, the light transmittance of the shading net is 30%, the seedling bed is lower than the road surface 6cm, the seedling bed width is 0.8 m, a layer of horticultural ground cloth is laid on the seedling bed, and the cutting substrate prepared in step 1) is laid on the horticultural ground cloth, and the thickness of the cutting substrate is 6cm

3) preparation of cuttings

In October, the semi-lignified branches of the same year were cut from the healthy female parent plants with good tree potential and free of diseases and insect pests, and cut into cuttings with 2 buds of 8cm length. One leaf was left for each cuttage, and the excess leaves were removed, and the base cut was oblique.

4) cuttings treatment

The cut under cuttings prepared in step 3 was immersed in an aqueous solution of 500mg/L indole butyric acid for 8s and immersed in deep 2cm to promote rooting.

5) Cuttage

The cuttings are vertically inserted into the cutting substrate in step 4) step 2) the insertion depth is 4cm, the plant spacing is 5cm, and the row spacing is 6cm. After the cuttings are finished, the cutting substrate is watered without stagnant water.

6) Post-cutting management: step 2) support a high 50cm arch frame on the seedling bed, which is covered with plastic film and sealed around. During the rooting period of the cuttings, the air relative humidity in the arch shed is kept at 80%, the cutting substrate is kept moist without stagnant water, the temperature in the arch shed is 23 ℃ from 8: 00 a.m. to 8: 00 p.m., and the temperature in the arch shed is 12 ℃ from 8: 00 p.m. to 8: 00 a.m. When the relative humidity is too high or the temperature is too high, the plastic film is properly opened for ventilation and cooling. After the cuttings take root, the water content of the cutting substrate is reduced, and the plastic film is gradually opened for ventilation.
