At the beginning of the year, it was the natural defoliation period of Meinong and Daliao red beans, and after the red pods were dried and ripe, they entered a busy harvest period. at this time, adzuki beans red by the sun can often be seen on the courtyard or on the second side of the industrial road. The Kaohsiung miscellaneous grain revival movement has added a lot of earth color to the Kaohsiung Plain and Meinong Basin.

In the early days of Taiwan, farmland irrigation was not easy, and when the soil could not supply enough nutrients, miscellaneous grains that could adapt to barren land were common crops, and most of them were grown by farmers to eat on their own, so local characteristics were developed in accordance with local conditions. however, it has also changed because of the development of the international market and agriculture. The terrain of Kaohsiung is changeable and the sunshine is abundant, and the deformed land in the plains and mountains is suitable for miscellaneous grain farming. Coupled with the diversity of ethnic groups, the types of miscellaneous grains are more diverse than those in other areas.

The red quinoa, millet, taro of the aboriginal tribes of Namasha, Maolin and Taoyuan, the edamame beans, soybeans, red beans and corn of the plains, as well as a small number of miscellaneous grain crops that are being restored, such as sesame seeds, although they are not as good as those of that year, there are still occasional traces of these grains.

Kuo Hua-Jen, an honorary professor of agronomy at National Taiwan University, said in the 2015 "New miscellaneous grain revival movement: symposium on the development of Taiwan's domestic soybean industry" that Taiwan's soybean production had nearly 60,000 hectares in the 1960s and less than 100 hectares in the 2010s. Although the statistics on domestic soybean acreage climbed slowly to 2176 hectares in 2016, there is still a long way to go to promote the restoration of miscellaneous grains.
