When it comes to cutting, in fact, there are many methods. We can use water, soil, river sand, vermiculite, perlite, and so on. Let's analyze the effect of that kind of cutting.

1. Water planting, many potted plants can be cut with water to survive, cut a suitable branch, insert it into water, change water every two or three days, and take root in about a week. It is relatively easy to take root, for example, green pineapple, hanging orchid, take root in three or four days, but in this way, the root system of cuttage is very brittle, and it is easy to break when transplanting into the soil, and hydroponic culture is changed to soil culture, slow seedling for a long time.

2. Soil cuttings, cut cuttings, directly into the soil, so that cutting, rooting will be slower, and easy to lose water and wither.

3. Vermiculite cutting, the cutting method I often use is vermiculite cutting. Fill the flowerpot with vermiculite, insert the cuttings, pour water thoroughly, put them into the flower tray, and keep about two centimeters of water in the tray.

Just put it in a place with light, bask in the sun, and keep it for about a month without bagging. Some woody plants that are difficult to take root, such as rose, triangular plum, gardenia and so on, can be cut to survive by this method.

This is the rose, crab claw orchid, etc., which I use vermiculite cuttings to survive. In about 20 days, the root system is so long that it can be transplanting. When transplanting, it is best to use loose and breathable soil, and be sure to water the seedlings thoroughly. They can be directly placed in a tray, soaked for about half an hour, so that the potted soil and the root system are closely combined. If watering is not permeable, it is easy to lead to transplanting failure.

4. Of course, plain soil such as river sand and perlite can be used for cutting, but I think these cuttings will take root more slowly than vermiculite cuttings.
