In the past, people raised orchids, focusing on flowers, self-cultivation and self-satisfaction. Therefore, the method of planting and breeding also focuses on cultivating robust plants, making them easy to blossom, and there is no distinction between flowering and advocating that they are not in full bloom; in order to grow into clumps, it is at least necessary to plant at the mother's side, so there is a saying that "a crude product is worth a penny every three years and a precious product every five years." With the progress of orchid technology in society, people pay more attention to the reproduction and proliferation of orchids while appreciating the orchid art, line art and shape art, and advocate the method of frequently dividing and single planting in order to improve the return benefit of orchids. At present, the single plant cultivation method is often used by people, one is the total separation method. That is to say, the offspring, mothers, and parents of orchids are comprehensively divided into individual plants for cultivation (there are also sub-plants that are dismantled and clumps of mother plants); the second is the semi-separation method, that is, the joint between the offspring of each plant and the master plant (commonly known as "road") is sprained, but it is not broken and planted in a semi-separated state. There are new and old planting methods, and the fundamental difference between new and old planting methods lies in early division or late division, single plant planting or clump planting.

Which is better or worse than the old and new planting methods? Fair comments have their own strengths and weaknesses. From the point of view of reproduction, the new method wins. From ancient times to the present, the artificial propagation of Orchid is mainly natural reproduction, that is, it is constantly divided into tufted and mature pseudo-corms and planted in pots to make them reproduce and multiply. However, the vast majority of leaf buds of orchids germinate in the new generation, and several generations grow in clusters. Except for offspring, the mother generation rarely germinates leaf buds at the same time, while the master generation germinates leaf buds at the same time, which is even more rare, which can be said to be in a state of "sterilization". Using the old method of cultivation, it is a pity that some potential growth points of germinable leaf buds of female and male orchid plants are wasted. If the new method is adopted, the orchid plants of offspring, mother and father are separated and planted independently, under normal circumstances, the mother plants must be able to sprout new buds, and the parent plants are also very likely to sprout latent flowers (some varieties can not sprout new buds). There is no doubt that the new method can fully sprout new buds in all generations of orchids, and the reproduction rate is much higher than that of the old method, which is a great progress in cultivation methods. However, if we talk about the difficulty of making flowers early, the new law will be far inferior to the old one. Among them, the key is for many reasons, and the attitude to the new and old planting methods in the orchid boundary is not completely the same, each has his own preferences, and each holds the same reason. Focus on economic benefits, with corresponding technical facilities, for a rare and valuable variety, mostly use the method of single-plant cultivation to accelerate reproduction; self-nourishing, inexperienced and ordinary varieties, then use the traditional method of planting in clumps.

In addition to the normal cultivation, the individual cultivation of orchids needs careful maintenance, and several links should be taken seriously in order to achieve good results.

First, the planting method should be determined according to the specific situation. Individual cultivation can accelerate the propagation of orchids, but it is by no means suitable for any plant of orchids to be planted alone. Although the method of cluster planting is slow to propagate, when the orchid is divided into pots, whether to adopt single planting or cluster planting should be determined according to the flowering status of the plant and the original planting method, but the growth status of the single plant mainly depends on the offspring and the father generation. The offspring plant is strong and mature, and the root system of the father generation can be grown along the root. if it can be planted independently after dismantling, the new and old generations will be dismantled and planted, and strive for more reproduction of the new generation. Otherwise, the offspring or mothers should be planted in clumps to ensure safety and make the progeny have better quality. The mother generation was originally cultivated by a single plant, so it is generally not suitable to reopen the order, but let it grow in clusters for a period of time, and then plant it alone according to the situation after maintenance and rejuvenation. Because continuous single planting, some plants may no longer sprout, some plants may soon die; those who can reproduce, the quality of their offspring will be even worse. Only by seeking truth from facts, comprehensively applying the two planting methods and giving full play to their complementary advantages, can the balance between quantity and quality be achieved.

Second, it is necessary to break up carefully and plant them carefully. For tufted orchids, the "road" between daughter and mother plants is the narrowest, and it is more difficult to split. The suitable season for orchid pots is often the time for offspring plants to germinate leaf buds. Therefore, the split should be very careful to minimize the wound to avoid damage to the bud or growth point. After the split of the plant, the roots of each plant are different, and the root of a single plant is much less than that of clumps, and the fixing effect on the plant is weak. therefore, depending on the stability of the plant, it is necessary to take measures to strengthen it to prevent inverted seedlings from injuring the orchid.

Third, it is necessary to master temperature, humidity and light, fertilize properly, and do a good job of sprouting and strengthening seedlings. The germination of orchid leaf buds is closely related to temperature, humidity and light. If you divide the basin in spring, you should choose the time with relatively high temperature and relatively stable weather for ramet (generally between "Grain Rain" and "the Beginning of Summer"). After planting, the basin should be covered with water moss, cover the Reed head, often maintain the high humidity of the plant (including water moss) and the environment, and at the same time properly daylighting, so as to facilitate the plant to germinate quickly and sprout more. Autumn orchid's fastest growth time, generally in summer and early autumn, this period of water should be sufficient, frequently apply thin fertilizer, to promote the growth of new orchid seedlings.
