Angel-winged begonias (Begonia coccinea) are named after the characteristic shape of their leaves. They are fibrous, sugarcane-shaped begonias that grow for their beautiful leaves and showy coral pink flowers.

Climate

Angel-winged begonia can be planted all year round if it is planted in a shelter with a humidity of more than 50% in areas with higher temperatures. In a cooler climate, it is best to plant indoors all the year round, or spend the winter indoors.

Growth condition

Angel-winged begonia likes conditions similar to those of other begonias. Warmth, moderate humidity and bright indirect sunlight are all important, and the ventilation is good. Place the indoor angel wing begonia in a light-colored window facing east or west. Outdoor begonias need to be shaded at noon to avoid strong winds and loam or sandy, rapidly draining soil. Indoor angel-winged begonias can move outdoors in summer, but they must be placed in shade to prevent leaves from burning.

Watering requirement

Adequate soil moisture is the key to the successful cultivation of angel-winged begonia. Potted plants and gardens need to be watered regularly during the vigorous growing season, especially in hot or dry weather. Until excess water flows out of the drain at the bottom of the basin, or until the garden soil feels moist at the top 10-20cm. Overwatering increases the risk of root problems and disease of begonia with angel wings, so be sure to check the soil before watering and water only if the surface feels dry.
