The master's skill in making bonsai is to turn a tree into dead wood in the twinkling of an eye.

This is the process of making a real cypress sketch by the fourth generation owner of Shunshou-en (I don't know what its Chinese name is), a famous potted landscape garden in Bird Country. I am really willing to start.

The master said that when making true cypress sketches, two factors should be considered when cultivating cypress materials. One is to make the pile foundation large enough, and the other is to ensure the cypress leaves in the center.

In the process of cultivation, some leaves should be plucked to expose the central part of the branches and leaves, so that they can receive sunlight and not be eliminated. The only way to make the pile thick is to use multiple sacrificial branches like this.

Remove the old yellow leaves.

Most of the leaves on the front were removed to highlight dead trees and trunks.

The dead trees on the front trunk should be gradually expanded, and the bark should not be pulled too hard at one time. It is best to pull out a little bit a year.

Start carving. The main techniques are tearing, carving and polishing.

Next up is a panza, again a classic triangle. For a 7 cm plant, there are usually only two branches and a top. The first branch is usually on the right.

This second branch, indicated by the arrow, will be cut off in the future.

I chose one of these handcrafted pots. For a potted plant sketch, don't choose a pot that is too large, as that will make the tree look small and will make the tree grow too fast. Choose a smaller pot to make the stump look thicker.

When it was finished, there were only so many leaves left. It was embarrassing to say that it was still a tree. It took 10 man hours.

The master said that it is best to do such drastic operations in winter, early spring, and when they are still dormant. After that, it should be cultivated in a shaded place and sprayed with water many times a day. After a big fight like this, the cypress may grow needle-like leaves at first, so ignore it and pick it after about three years.
