The middle nest, that is, the middle palace, especially the overall structure of the flap and nose. The Central Palace is an important part of the national orchid appreciation. With the middle palace knot round, that is, the holding flap and the tongue flap form an approximate circular pattern for beauty, it requires five lobes to divide into nests, the nose (core column) to be small and flat, the tongue to be harmonious and compact, and the nests of plum and daffodils to be tight, and the middle nests of lotus and butterfly valves to be wide. In addition, the beauty of the form of the middle palace must be matched with the outer three lobes in order to show the beauty of harmony.

First, the pros and cons of the flap and birth form.

The two short flaps that are upright and close to each other on both sides of the tongue. Traditionally, according to its shape, it is divided into silkworm moth holding (figure 1), Guanyin holding (figure 2), bean shell holding (figure 3), crab clamp holding (figure 3), cat ear holding (figure 4), short round holding (figure 5), pu fan holding (figure 6), Xinkou holding (figure 7), ear digging (figure 8), all-round holding and so on. From the viewing point of view, the silkworm moth is the top grade, followed by Guanyin, and of course, it should be treated differently in combination with all kinds of petal types. The tongue, the labial flap, is located below the core column. Traditionally, according to its shape, it is divided into bangs tongue (figure 10), large round tongue (figure 11), wishful tongue (figure 12), large spread tongue (figure 13), dragon swallowing tongue (figure 14), large rolling tongue, large persimmon tongue, square missing tongue, magnificent tongue (figure 15), wearing jaw tongue, weighing hook tongue (figure 16) and so on. For the appreciation of the tongue flap, it is better to have a short, round and straight tongue, and those who are pointed, narrow, or skewed are inferior products, such as flat tongues that do not stretch in the heart, crooked tongues that lean to one side, and dragged tongues that are comfortable but not curled, are inferior products in the tongue, such as adhesion between the tongue and the nose. As big as the tongue, bangs, big round tongue will be able to relax, do not have charm, so on the whole, the tongue flap such as big tongue, bangs, big round tongue is the top grade. The color of the tongue is light green and white, no matter what color it is, the color should be pure, such as white in spring orchid and green in cymbidium.

III. Standard for appreciation of tongue coating

Fur, that is, a fluffy substance attached to the tongue. The tongue coating is fine and sticky in color (Fig. 17), while the thick and dark one is inferior. Its color and lustre to green and white as the top grade; all-red moss, very rare, for expensive products, followed by yellowish.

IV. Appreciation standard of core column

The core column of an orchid is traditionally called the nose. From an ornamental point of view, where the nose is small and flat, the petal can be held tight, and the flower shape can be handsome and energetic; where the nose is thick, the petal is bound to open in the shape of an "open skylight" and lacks introverted strength. No matter how good the three-petal flower shape is, it cannot be used as a top grade. Therefore, the stamen column is small and flat (figure 18), and the nose shape is thick (commonly known as big head) as inferior.

Fifth, the appreciation of the scarlet spot on the tongue

The tongue of Guolan attracts people's attention most, and the red spot of the tongue has the ornamental value of the finishing touch. Its color is bright, clear and bright; its layout is harmonious, symmetrical and regular; among them, if there are many red dots on the tongue, the red dots are evenly distributed, symmetrically and harmoniously distributed as the top grade; if there are few red dots on the tongue, it is better to have large red dots and the distribution is in the middle; its shape is in the shape of product character (figure 19) [Jishan Huayao], u-shaped, v-shaped, red-heart-shaped, Yuanbao-shaped. Under the premise of similar color, the tongue with large red spots and regular blocks is of higher grade than the scattered red dots.
