As we all know, a lot of fruit can be used for grafting. The grafted fruit tastes better, but most people do not expect that watermelon can also be used for grafting.

Watermelon grafting generally uses gourd as rootstock, but some netizens use pumpkin as rootstock for grafting, and the resulting watermelon looks delicious.

Let's talk about how watermelons are grafted, and not only the grafting technology, but also the maintenance after grafting is also very important.

Plug and connect

Generally speaking, if you want to use grafting to carry out grafting, rootstock and scion should be sown at the same time, generally using gourd as rootstock.

When the rootstock sprouts and can be grafted on the 6th to 8th day, it must be careful not to be too late, otherwise it will affect the survival rate after grafting.

First of all, remove the growing point of the rootstock with a toothpick about the thickness of the watermelon seedling, then cut one side of the toothpick to a sharp flat, and then insert it diagonally above the growing point of the rootstock.

Cut the cotyledons of the watermelon seedlings into a wedge under the grafted cotyledons, then pull out the toothpick and insert it into the hole, not too deep, about one centimeter.

Lean on the connection

When grafting is carried out by grafting, it should be noted that the rootstock should be sown 5 days earlier than watermelon seedlings. When the watermelon seedling grows, pull it up by the root and make an oblique cut from top to bottom with a knife under the leaves of the rootstock.

Watermelon seedlings should make an oblique cut under the leaves from the bottom to the top, then embed the two incisions together and wrap them with a plastic bag, or a grafting clip. After that, just plant the watermelon seedlings in the rootstock pot.

Maintenance

For grafted seedlings, the temperature between 20 and 28 degrees is the most suitable for their growth, and the highest temperature can only reach 28 degrees during the day, and the lowest temperature should be kept at 20 degrees at night.

After grafting, keep the basin soil moist, water thoroughly after grafting, keep completely moist in the first three days, and ventilate them after three days.

Grafted seedlings in the first two days, can not see light, two days later, can see weak light, and then slowly let it adapt to the light, a week later will not have to cover the light.

Here are some watermelons grafted with pumpkins as rootstocks:

It looks no different from the watermelons we usually see, but I just don't know if it's sweet. Flower friends who are interested can engraft themselves.
