The "Taiwan, Japan and South Korea food carving-school lunch and anti-GMO action" workshop, which just ended two weeks ago, Wu Shiying, executive chairman of the "National Anti-GMO Action" from South Korea, and on behalf of Japan, "We do not want genetically modified food!" Tianli Qiyou, a teacher of the campaign, talked about the environmental pollution cases of his own domestic genetically modified crops and the civic actions initiated by the people.

Since none of the three countries, including Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, have grown any GM crops at present, the pollution cases of GM crops in South Korea and Japan are indeed worthy of Taiwan's deep consideration and reference.

South Korea

Wu Shiying, executive chairman of the Executive Committee, said that a pollution incident of GM rape broke out in South Korea in May 2017. During the official routine inspection of the "Taibai rapeseed Festival" originally scheduled for June, it was found that there were genetically modified rape in the park, so the activity was forced to be cancelled. Follow-up investigations pointed out that the source of pollution came from imported rapeseed from China mixed with genetically modified rape seeds with reproductive ability. Since January 2016, South Korea has imported a total of 79.6 tons of rapeseed from China, of which 32.5 tons are suspected of being mixed with GM seeds, of which 464 kilograms have flowed into small-scale trading markets.

In August of the same year, the South Korean Hansalim Cooperative Union recruited members to form a "domestic GMO investigation mission." in October, Hansalim held a press conference with members of Congress to announce the results of the investigation, putting forward five demands, including transparency of information, expansion of investigation, strengthening of censorship, provision of compensation, and complete marking of genetically modified raw materials, but so far the authorities have not responded positively.

These cases in Japanese and South Korea have repeatedly reminded us that the issue of fundamental reform is not only related to human health or food safety, but also involves important aspects such as environmental ecology and food autonomy.

As mentioned in the 2018 Declaration on the connection of Taiwan, Japan and South Korea's Anti-basic Reform Movement signed by non-governmental anti-basic reform groups in Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, genetically modified crops have been commercially listed for more than 20 years. Soybeans, corn, cotton, rape four genetically modified crops and food are full of people's life, which have a far-reaching and complex impact on the environment and ecology, human health, food sovereignty, international trade and other aspects. As multinational enterprises that master the seeds of fundamental reform expand their monopoly territory through mergers, and creatures using a new generation of genetic technologies may enter the market without supervision, for non-governmental anti-fundamental reform movement organizations, which are relatively short of manpower and funds, only through international alliances can we strengthen the strength to prevent the invasion of fundamental reform into life.
