Is it true that a gentleman's orchid is not an orchid?

The gentleman's orchid has always been famous for its modesty and elegance, just like a gentleman. Although the gentleman orchid has the word "orchid" in its name, it is actually not an orchid. Orchids belong to orchids, while orchids belong to Amaryllidaceae. They belong to different plant families. It's a little bit like there's no wife in the old lady's cake.

Gentleman orchid profile

Magnolia (scientific name: Clivia miniata), alias Lycoris radiata, Lycoris grandiflora, is an ornamental flower of the genus Lycoris of the family Amaryllidaceae, and is a perennial herb. It is native to southern South Africa. The florescence is as long as 30-50 days, mainly in winter and spring. New Year's Day also blossoms before and after the Spring Festival, avoiding bright light, semi-negative plants, like cool, avoid high temperature.

The leaves of Cymbidium are broad and band-shaped, with hard and thick texture, glossy and veined. If properly managed, the leaves are arranged neatly and fan-shaped, which is very beautiful. Scape is drawn from leaf axils and usually blossoms when it has 20-25 leaves. Flowers are umbrella-shaped, florets stalked, funnel-shaped, the colors are orange, light yellow, orange, light red, crimson and so on. The berries are globose, green when immature and purplish red when ripe.

The optimum temperature for growth was 15-25 ℃, and stopped growing when the temperature was lower than 5 ℃. Like thick, well-drained soil and moist soil, avoid dry environment.

The life span of magnolia is several decades or more. The widely cultivated Cymbidium in China is the red and orange flowers of Magnolia. With high ornamental value, potted plants are often planted in greenhouses in China.

Daily maintenance of Magnolia

1. Soil requirements

The choice of soil is the first key factor for Magnolia, which likes fertile and loose neutral or weakly acidic rotten soil.

2. Lighting requirements

Cymbidium likes semi-shade, so growing orchids indoors requires manual adjustment of the effect of light on it. In the daytime, put the flower plate in the sunny place, such a gentleman orchid looks good and has ornamental value. Or be lazy and change the direction to the sunny place of the leaves every other week, so that the gentleman orchid can grow staggered.

3. Watering method

Gentleman orchid is a fleshy root, angry and afraid of water stains. Watering should not be too much, usually it is best to combine fertilization and watering to keep the basin soil moist. Be sure to water thoroughly every time, and a little more after budding. Every 20 days or so, combine watering with fermented bean cake water, fresh fish water and horseshoe water to combine watering and fertilization.

The temperature is low in winter, the transpiration and evaporation of water is less, so it is necessary to control watering to prevent the basin soil from being too wet, which will cause the death of rotten roots, but can not make the basin soil too dry.

4. Fertilization method

Orchids are usually fertilized in winter. Phosphate fertilizer and potash fertilizer are more beneficial to the cultivation of Magnolia, and less nitrogen fertilizer is applied when topdressing. Be sure to control the amount of fertilization, ha, or it is easy to cause charred symptoms at the leaf tip of Cymbidium, especially in winter, if the leaves are spotted and the roots turn yellow, it is the reason for excessive fertilization. Three months before flowering, liquid fertilizer was applied mainly with phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to promote its arrows to blossom.

5. Leaf protection

The leaves are short, wide, thick, green, bright and strong, which are the characteristics of healthy orchids. In addition to providing reasonable fertilizer and water, the leaf surface must be kept clean in order to improve photosynthetic efficiency.

(1) wash the leaves regularly and spray or wipe off the dust on the leaves with the same water as the room temperature.

(2) spraying fungicides in time to prevent the occurrence of leaf spot, leaf blight and stem rot and ensure that the leaves are green.
