In the growth process of succulent plants, the growth rate is faster in spring and autumn, and in summer.

Most of them grow slowly, and some even stagnate in a semi-dormant state. The reason for this phenomenon is that high temperature photosynthesis is slow and respiration is intensified, but this situation is not really dormant, and its duration is not long, as long as we pay attention to ventilation and cooling, proper water supply, and naturally resume growth when the climate turns cool.

Therefore, many friends think that stones cannot be watered in summer, and they dare not water them. This is the most basic misunderstanding. I would like to share some experience of spending the summer with stones for your reference.

To put it simply, the safety of stone in summer can start with soil, water, molting and rotten roots:

1. Soil distribution and watering:

Soil distribution and water supply can be said to be mutual, and different formula soils have different water supply. There is no fixed standard for matching soil, for example: northerners eat miscellaneous grains physically strong, southerners eat rice is not bad, each player with different soil, some use peat + perlite (can promote the growth of stone flowers); there are also players who simulate the place of origin to be planted with pure stone (its stone is extremely hard). And just said that the soil is two extremes, most players mix soil for red jade + peat (the proportion of red jade accounts for 6 to 7 parts), and then paved with particles, which can be regarded as the conventional use of stone flowers.

So watering can not be generalized, generally speaking, summer water supply 2 times a month can be 3 times, the specific can be divided into three situations.

1. Pure stone planting:

Pure stone planting drainage fast, does not affect the root system, 35 °high temperature in summer, in the case of sunny days can supply water every day, but this is only applicable to the old pot, just transplanting the new pot is not.

2. Pure peat planting:

In this way, the method of water supply is different, which depends on the weather conditions. After 3-5 days, the sun can supply water. After watering, it can not be kept in the shade. It needs to be put under the sun so that the water in the soil evaporates. The stone is afraid of being wet and stuffy. Try to ventilate + sunshine + dry. (also applicable to the old basin)

3. Red jade soil + peat soil planting:

(6:4) the proportion is suitable for individuals, meat friends can match it according to their own conditions (more wet, red jade soil, dry can add more peat soil), or appropriately add slow-release fertilizer.

Second, molting:

This is also a magical place of stone, like a snake shedding its skin. The water needs to be stopped during the molting period of the stone in summer, during which there are old leaves to nourish the new leaves, and the old leaves will eventually dry up like wrinkled paper. At this time, the root system is dormant and the water supply is easy to rot the root.

Personal experience: it is necessary to give water to the stone after exuviating. (if your stone is molted and the old leaf becomes paper, water it.) Plus, the stone basically exfoliates 1-2 times a year, so take care of your little hands and don't always give water!

The above is the phenomenon of red internal molting (not the same plant).

Figure 1: new leaves of red molt grow out

Figure 2: new leaves absorb nutrients from old ones

Figure 3: the nutrients of the old leaves are consumed by the new leaves and dry up like a piece of tin foil

Figure 4: if watered in the stages of figure 1 and 2, it will be the same as figure 4

Third, rotten roots:

Rotten roots of stones are relatively rare, but they are fatal. According to the above, the maintenance of stones is relatively easy to control. Small stone flowers in summer can give more water, there is no obvious dormancy (like Baby, drink milk several times a day, one more meal is fine). For large rocks, they need well drained soil, otherwise the big stones with well-developed roots do not remove water in time after water supply, which is easy to cause rotting roots.

Here is an inventory of the common death methods of raw stone flowers in the hands of meat friends:

1. Watering with cheap hands

This is generally the rookie of Sedum transferred to the apricot. The drainage of the soil is poor, and the stone is still wrinkled after the water supply. In fact, the stone is in a dormant state. If the water is not discharged in time, the root system of the stone is easy to rot, and then slowly rot to the joint between the stone and the root. This is about to say goodbye to this stone.

2. Plant small flowers in large pots

This can happen when there is a high proportion of peat. Such as the black square of 7cm in diameter, plant a stone of 1cm, such as continuous overcast and rain, the stone is easy to rot in the case of poor ventilation. Small black square water retention is OK, such as 1cm stone needs water is 3, the whole basin of soil moisture 10, the remaining 7 days down the small stone is not good. By comparison, 7cm's black square of 9 small stones is a problem.

Beside the topic, the meat cone flower is compared with the raw stone flower, which is also more than 3 years. The meat cone root system mainly absorbs nutrients by the fibrous root, and the root will not go deep into the soil. However, the root system of stone flower is super-long main root, and the whisker root is very few. It can be seen that the method of water supply is also different!

Medication:

Stone flowers are rarely bitten by insects (it seems that they are often heard of by grasshoppers), so they basically do not need insecticides, and once they are found to have been gnawed, they need fungicides. Stone wound infection is also easy to rot!

Summary:

Because the original habitat of the stone is a desert area with extremely dry and little rain, the stone is not delicate, and they have adapted to the environment of drought and strong light. And after years of domestication, it is not difficult for stones to spend the summer. The allocation of soil and water supply is very important, and it needs to be prepared according to different climates in different regions. Never water your skin when molting. Appropriate amount of water can be irrigated after molting.
