Hello everyone, I am Ajie, a horticultural enthusiast, like to plant plants from all over the world, today I bring you avocado planting skills.

Avocado, also known as avocado, camphor pear, avocado or avocado, is an evergreen tree belonging to the genus Avocado of Lauraceae. It is listed as the most nutritious fruit, with the reputation of "one avocado is equivalent to three eggs" and "cream of the poor". Therefore, there are "nutritional fruit","forest butter", known as fruit treasures by many developed countries. Avocado is rich in glyceric acid, protein and vitamins, moist but not greasy, is a natural antioxidant, not only can soften and moisturize the skin, but also shrink coarse pores. Avocado pulp has good compatibility with human skin, is easily absorbed by skin, has strong absorption of ultraviolet rays, and is rich in vitamin E and carotene, so it has good skin care, sun protection and health care effects.

I have a potted avocado tree which is eight or nine years old and growing well. Because I live in the north winter cold, so I originally selected a cold-resistant variety of Mexico, and is a dwarf variety. The Mexican variety is said to be hardy, but to be on the safe side, I move it into a simple greenhouse every winter, so that it can avoid freezing and dormancy.

Avocado blooms in March. When it blooms, the flowers are beautiful. The shape of the flowers is somewhat similar to that of jujube flowers, but the flowers are larger than jujube flowers and have no fragrance. Fruit ripens from August to September. Avocado is a fleshy drupe, the pericarp varies from yellow-green, reddish-brown to brown when ripe, the fruit is 5 to 20 cm long and 3 to 14 cm in diameter, and the pericarp turns yellow-green, creamy yellow, brown or dark green when ripe; the flesh is soft, creamy white, yellowish or creamy yellow, and the flesh is very delicate; the flesh has an egg yolk flavor and is slightly sweet.

Avocado potted trees are very good care, one of the main reasons is that it is more adaptable to the soil. Watering should be dry and wet, so as not to cause rotten roots. Avocado trees love light, hot and humid climates, and if these conditions are met, the tree will grow quickly. Fertilization should be frequent but thin fertilizer should be applied, organic fertilizer can be applied, such as cake fertilizer. Also note that some zinc-containing fertilizer should be applied every year to ensure a balanced composition of the fertilizer, because sometimes butter fruit trees are prone to zinc deficiency after flowering. After my butter fruit tree sets, it will sprout buds, bloom and bear fruit. Butter fruit trees basically do not grow insects, there is no disease, do not need to spray pesticides to kill insects. The avocados are also clean and definitely "green" fruit.

With regard to the propagation of avocados, there are gardeners who often like to plant small avocados in pots or in the ground, and find that such seed-propagated seedlings grow quickly and hope that they will soon bloom and bear fruit. In fact, when the seedlings planted with seeds grow up, they will not only enter the fruiting period very late or grow for many years without flowering, but also bear fruit. In addition, the seedlings planted with seeds have the characteristics of only flowering but not bearing fruit after growing up. If it can bear fruit after several years, the fruit will also be very different from the fruit produced by the original mother tree.

Because of the large variation of the offspring, the fruit is small and the quality is poor. Grafting is often used as the primary means of propagating avocado. But seedlings grown from seeds are used as rootstocks. I planted the avocado seed (kernel) in a pot for about 40 days and found that it had taken root and sprouted. Two months after planting it in a flowerpot, it grew into a seedling of more than 20 centimeters. After a year of cultivation in pots, such seedlings can be used as rootstock for grafting the following spring.

When grafting, cut a healthy scion from my potted avocado mother tree, which is almost as thick as the rootstock planted with avocado seeds. Cut a plane of about 3 cm on the rootstock with a knife 5 to 6 cm near the root. Cut the scion into the same plane. Then put the scion and the plane on the rootstock together. Tie them tightly with tape. Finally, bend the branches and leaves on the rootstock. This is done to provide nutrients and water to the scion. In general, new buds can be seen growing on scions in about 30 days. Thus you will have a fine young shea tree, and the grafted tree will flower in the second year of grafting and bear fruit very quickly, and will bear shea fruit exactly like the fruit of the mother tree.
