I received a message from a flower friend yesterday that the old pile of longevity flowers that had grown at home for more than two years, the branches were still in full bloom, and black rot suddenly appeared on the rhizome. I was hesitant to cut off the rotten part. In fact, this is a phenomenon often encountered in the process of longevity flower culture.

Longevity flowers are different from other plants. When longevity flowers grow for more than two years, the branches at the bottom will gradually appear Lignification, and some will grow roots on the branches. In addition to the serious lack of water in the roots, most of the reasons are caused by the lack of exuberant growth of the old roots. of course, some varieties like to grow gas and take roots under normal circumstances.

After the Lignification of branches, it will affect the water and nutrient absorption of longevity flowers, coupled with the high temperature in summer, longevity flowers are easy to wilt or die due to various reasons in the process of dormancy, if the management of water and fertilizer is not timely in autumn and winter, it will lead to dislike of flowering or less flowering.

It is generally recommended to cut off the branches on the old pile (that is, shaving) and reset the soil cuttings after blooming in summer (those who like the old pile's longevity flowers can be ignored). Pruning is recommended to start at the bottom of the branch and choose healthy branches without Lignification, each about 10 cm long. Two or four leaves are reserved at the top for photosynthesis. The branches can be soaked in carbendazim solution or rooting water, dried and inserted into clean sandy soil or loose and breathable culture soil, keep the temperature of 15-28 ℃, and take root in about 20 days.

Can also be soaked in rooting powder directly into the water, you can select a small foam board, dig a hole in the middle, and then insert the longevity flower branches into a clean water cup or container, in order to promote rooting, you can also add a little white sugar in the water, generally water rooting speed is faster, can be moved into the culture soil after rooting. The longevity flowers survived by cutting in summer can blossom in the same year after topping in time and timely water and fertilizer management in autumn.
